Hi everyone I posted in here a while ago talking about a nasty rattle my bike makes at about 1500 RPM...I got told it was the cam chain but I've been asking around since and because the bike has only done around 6,000 Miles I was wondering if it could really be the cam chain or could it be anything else.
    Thanks Daniel.

Hi yeah sorry it's a chinese trails bike.
the rattle is present when I rev both in neutral and in gear and it's really quite significant like you can hear my engine and you can also hear the rattle the same,
    thanks

What have you checked so far? Do you see any wear around the engine mounts? Is the muffler on solid? Have you done an eyeball check on it while it was running to see if it isn't an internal engine problem? Has it always made this noise? Have you ever tightened the chain? They do wear down and need to be adjusted after awhile. What level of knowledge of bikes do you have?

Check all that you can see outside the engine first. It may be something as simple as a loose bolt or bolts. If your knowledge of bikes is very limited, find someone else who rides who could look it over for you. Good luck!

Oh, forgot to add: where do you hear the problem from? Can you isolate to a specific area of the bike? You should probably have someone rev the bike for you during your examination.........

Honestly it sounds like it's coming from inside the cylinder or the plug lead.
I have a very basic knowledge on bikes and I very often adjust my drive chain but I am sure that isn't where the rattle is coming from...my exhaust has literally fell off in the past but that is all secure now so I am sure that also isn't the source of the rattling.
    Thanks Daniel.

Overhead cam....slack in the timing chain...those chinese bikes are honda knock offs...pick up a honda manual and any part you have to replace ....do it with a honda part....lol only time you'll hear me say that:devil:

I'd look for loose parts on the bike first, body, exhaust, mounts, pegs, shifter, sound really travels...

Get a mechanics stethoscope, a cheapy from a car parts store then you can put it on all the parts of the engine, etc and listen for the noise.

Sounds to me like a loose exhaust pipe heat shield. If it was the timing chain, the noise would go away when you're riding with the motor under load. Just sitting there revving up indicates loose chassis parts.
