Remington Arms moving 2,000+ jobs from NY to Alabama

Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) Doesn't Want Them

Remington, one of the world’s largest gun manufacturers, will on Monday join Gov. Robert Bentley (R) to announce they are bringing over 2,000 jobs to Alabama. Most of the jobs will be relocated from their Ilion, NY plant, and the initial investment in Alabama will be $87 million. Founded in 1816 in upstate New York, the company is one of the nation’s oldest continuously operating manufacturers.

Remington is the only U.S. manufacturer of both firearms and ammunition products and one of the largest domestic producers of shotguns and rifles. Remington first began considering new locations after the New York legislature passed the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act in response to the tragic shootings in Newtown, Conn. It broadened the definition of so-called “assault weapons” to include a wide range of guns, including the Bushmaster, which was being manufactured at Remington’s New York plant.

A month ago Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) said “extreme conservatives” who are “right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-***,” have “no place in the state of New York.” Gov. Bentley responded “In Alabama we strongly support and uphold our great U.S. Constitution on which our nation and our states were founded.

“The Constitution serves to protect individual freedoms. Among them are those guaranteed in the Second Amendment, which protects the right of the people to keep and bear Arms. We will protect the freedoms of individuals and welcome any one or any company to Alabama to discover as so many have, that we are a pro-business state filled with good, hardworking people. “If Gov. Cuomo doesn’t want hard working pro-life and pro-2nd Amendment people in his state, we will gladly take them here in Alabama.” Elections are a battle, Liberty is the war.

We may lose a battle here and there but we must Never lose the war. Keep fighting the good fight.

'Really should be 2 states. The citizens upstate get out voted by the high population of A-holes in the city. It's really two completely different cultures.

as a small business owner in UPSTATE n/y I am at the point of hardly surviving due to my overhead. The % of income in my pocket has slowly gotten lower year after year. Some is due to the economy, some to overhead, some to sympathy for good customers. (my fault) As an example, garage owners insurance, health insurance, utilitys, data to repair and diagnose, tools, the list goes on. tell my son to get a job with a long term future. this situation is not only in N/Y but across the great country we live in.

Your right but I think possibly worse in certain areas. I was a business owner also for many years and the constant costs of the regulations I had to follow and the added and added hours of classes we had to take and tests every year to just keep our license, plus the outrages errors and emissions insurance and liability insurance that we were required to have all added to an enormous amount every years. The cost of equipment was enormous. The cost of being self employed is a lot and not to sure I would do it over again, but enjoyed the freedom it gave me. Except when your, your own boss you work harder

A great example in our area was an old farmer told me he could stash a small percentage of income 20 years ago from straw or firewood from cleaning a hedgerow and put it in his pocket "for a rainy day". In the present time big brother and insurance companies watch and controls way to much of our options to provide for now and our futures, if a person is willing to go the extra mile to be in a better place they should be applauded not penalized.

We got an IRS audit last spring and they decided that we could not deduct certain business deductions that we had done for years. I asked the IRS agent if I was being audited because I'm a Republican, she just smiled. Yea we know. Now the Pres is increasing his spending and increasing taxes on us all again.

it is way to sad that a person who is willing to put the extra effort into trying to provide for the future can be dragged down by rules and regulations that subsidize people that are more than capable of working but think the job is below there expectations.

Yeah it's getting scary in the good old USA. Years ago there were always jobs that if you weren't registered in the correct party you couldn't get them. Now you could be a target for being in the wrong party. How many years will it be before a person is physically threatened for being registered in a particular party? I think our beloved country is really degrading and I fear for my grand kids
