Man we got these hornets that dig a hole in the ground. Got a hole where one lives at the end of my back deck. They are Huge, I haven't been attacked yet. But they really startle me.
And they can fly real fast.

Seen them all over the lake this year.
    Anybody know anything about them.

We got hornets here that live in the ground, not as big as those but they are one nasty bee and do attack. Wife was out pulling weeds out by a Doug Fir tree a month or so ago and stepped on their hole. Holy crap they came after her with a vengeance. She was stung over 20 times by the time I was able to get her into the house. Had to take her to the hospital cause she was swelling up in her throat. Not something to mess with. They said keep Benadryl at home as it helps with the swelling.

Do you have Cicadas? We get these look-a-likes here on Long Island. The attack Cicadas, sting 'em to paralyze them. Bring to the hole in the ground. Lay and egg on the Cicada then bury it. The egg hatches and the hornet pupae lives off the Cicada. I think that is what you got there.

What if these things are here for a purpose. Never seen them before and all of a sudden I see em all over the lake.
If I wanted to kill em I would kill em. I wanted to learn more about them.
My dog is in the yard with them and they haven't bothered him yet.

Ya know the dude i work with planted gardens and they didn't do too well.
So he has a buddy that is a bee keeper, 2 yrs ago, he started puttin honey bee hives on his property. This year he had a great garden thanks to the bees.
So I'm gonna wait and see what these things are before I kill them.
As long as they don't sting me.

They are different, as far as the hornets and the bees hornets are very large as bees go ,the honey bees are very small ,are t you sure they are not yellow jackets, they nest in the ground are very small, and sting often from one bee, most bees sting once, yellow jackets one bee can sting many times.
