So I went to start my inherited 2009 Sportster Custom today, and the dang thing won't even begin to start. Something with the stupid H-D security system fob, I think.
Ol' Red, my '99 Road King, has multiple security systems: .22, .223/5.56, .243, .357, 30-06 BAR, 10 gauge and 12 gauge. Plus an aluminum bat and a meaner, combat tested master than dog, though a dog, too...and maybe more - no one should want to test that security. So what the F___ do I have to do to get the system to accept the friggin' key to start the dang thing!!

The best security is always a light sleeper with a desire to protect what is his, and the tools to do it. Friggin' fobs.............grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

    So now what?

I lost the antenna for the security system on my 09 SG and it wouldn't restart after shutting it off. If that's the case you should have a light on or flashing.

BTW there is a manual over ride for the security system,
turn on the ignition and depress both turn signals immediately
you should see the odometer flip to a 5 digit security code input
    screen.

Use the signal buttons to scroll through the numbers to input
the code and the bike will start, of course you need the code,
if you have the manual it should have the code in the back on a
    detachable wallet card.

You can change the code if you want, the manual has the info

its fairly easy, you should learn it in case you lose
the fob on the road, or take off and leave it at home

did that once, fob was on the bench, bike started
since it was in range, got across town and no fob
no start! Without the code you're waiting on someone
to get a fob to you, not fun if you have your wife driving
100 miles to the gas station with the fob....

Well, the battery thing fixed the fobs, I have two fobs (inherited) and they both failed at the same time. Says something about battery life expectancy, I guess, but I'd be happier in a world that didn't require security systems that were a PITA to deal with.

Now I just have to get good gas in that one's tank. Soon!
