I'm new at this and have a problem. I recently had 2 codes come up on my Harleys onboard computer diagnostic for the crank trigger sensor. I fixed it and now I need to clear the codes so my check engine light in the tach will go off. Is there anyway I can do this myself or do I need to take it to the Harley shop to get them cleared? Any help would be appreciated...thanks! :banghead:

I know after so many starts it will reset itself.

Okay....I have heard about the 50 run/start cycles clearing the codes but I don't really want to ruin my starter. Can I take my plugs out and then do the run/start cycles so there is no compression and it would just roll over nice and easy??? Any thoughts? Thanks...:witsend:

And yes...free is best! I want them cleared so my check engine light is off just in case something was wrong with something else. It is a 1999 Electra Glide Standard.

Does the check engine light stay on...on my '03 it comes on ,but then goes out after 10 seconds or so,that shows a historic code... I've tried the 50 cycle,I don't think you have to start the engine, just cycle the ignition...but man, 50 cycles is a lot,I just gave up and rode the bike...if you throw a new code the engine light will stay on,so you can tell the difference between a historic code and a present code...

That would make me think you have a present code...I don't know if your '99 and my '03 are the same, since yours is MM EFI and mine is Delphi, but here's the description out of my diagnostic manual...

At key on the check engine lamp will light for approx 4 secs.then go out...

After the light goes out it will:

A- Remain off if there are no fault conditions or trouble codes currently detected by the ECM

B-Come back on for an 8 second period if only historic codes exist.

C- Come back on and remain on if a current trouble code exists...
