I ain't been on the board much (for me) lately 'cuz it is that time again. Already bagged a monster 4X4 (Western count, we don't get carried away with eye tines here) mule deer buck that weighed just shy of 300lbs. Antlers thicker than my wrist (not that I am Lord Humoungous, but still friggin' big!). Took about 7 days of high country camping/scouting (no cell phone or FM radio - just AM radio at night on the skip). God's country, and He'll bring you home quick from there if you aren't careful! Base camp at 8400 ft, took my buck at nearly 10,000......tough breathing up there, especially carrying all the gear needed. Made me think of my buds in Afghanistan, and if I could still hang with them....doubt it, doubt it a LOT.

Took another 4 hours - with my brother to help - to haul the buck back to my ATV, 'cuz even though I got the quad to within 350 yards (after the kill) as the mountain was so VERY steep. And, too, we were moving as fast as we could, as we were also racing a snow storm that nearly stranded us 60 miles from the metropolis of Eureka, Nevada (remember that one, Abby? If you blinked, probably not:roflmao: ). An epic adventure, though I was so beat down for days after it was reminiscent of some of my military adventures.

Now, though my freezer is darn near full, I'm after chukar partridge, ducks and geese. Need a Christmas goose - an anti-Scrooge thing, I guess.

Still manage to ride, though. Even took the windshield off the 'King to get that frost-face wake-up that coffee can't give me. But I'll no longer ride below 10 degrees, not worth the frostbite...at least I'll tell myself that for now. Sometimes, ya just have to ride, damn the weather...

    Wow!

I remember Eureka. I think I spent the night there. Going off the main road anywhere around there is a scary thought.

    Deer hunting the hard way

Great deer RR. Read a story in the Spartanburg SC, Herald Journal a couple of weeks ago. Seems a man and his son in law were out riding, downtown, and a four point jumped out and hit and killed the son in law. Same week, an eight point crashed into a vacant shop and had to be put down due to the injuries he recieved attacking the plate glass. A four and an eight point in a downtown metropolitan area and I am out n the NC woods seeing nothing but does and spikes....go figure.
