Can anyone tell me what a 1965 Hydra Glide shovelhead is worth? Ballpark. Its in pretty nice condition and runs great. I got 8000 in it. I know it's worth more

Harley didn't start manufacturing the shovel till 1966. Either you incorrectly identified the year of your shovel or you have a '65 panhead.

I have over $12,000 in my '77 shovel bobber (see pic) but if I were to sell it, I wouldn't get nearly what I put into it. Post a picture of your bike.

Hydra Glides were from 1949-57 then changed to the Dou Glide from '58-64 then in '65 was the introduction of the Electra Glide....these were all Pan Heads...Like wrong way Josh said...'66 was 1st year for Shovels...any of those bikes in pristine stock condition could fetch a few bucks...and the early Shovels in the same condition (original stock condition)are also starting to increase in value, the later Shovels from about '79-84 are going from approx $4500-up to whatever someone's willing to pay,but they too have to be in original stock condition, part numbers and paint codes have to match to be of any value...post a few pics of your ride...:D

That '59 Duo Glide is shore purrrty. Even the tires are correct period wise.

Slap me if I'm wrong, but 65 was the 1st year of the Electra Glide in the Panhead.
But it was also the transformation of the pan shovel head like Chucktx said.
Hd was transforming the pan to the shovel head.

The heads on the shovel breath better than on the pan.

Yeah...maybe he was disappointed when he found out he has a Frankenstein....I don't know exactly what shovels are selling for in the US,but it would be a stretch to get $8000. for it here JMHO....
Good slabsides are getting a little more than the cone shovels, but I'd be damn lucky to get $5500. for my '79 all cleaned up with fresh paint....it's mostly '79 but it's a Frankenstein too,so you'd have to find someone who really likes it and it would never become a collectors bike...original stock is what makes the old iron valuable... JMHO of course :D

Wish I could, I'm having to operate off my phone at the moment and can't post on here. From what I can tell from running the vin through HD its a 65 hydra glide put out late in the year. According to HD its a shovel... Probably a pan bottom end. The numbers match up there were no numbers on the frame in 65. But it has fresh paint and runs great. I do have pics on my Facebook if any want to check it out. David Dino Dean

    Me either....

Hydra Glide= Hydraulic telescopic front forks and a rigid frame

Dou Glide= Hydraulic telescopic front forks and a new frame with a swing arm and rear suspension (Dual suspension)...Harley never went back to rigid frames....that I know of...

Electra Glide, basically a Duo Glide with Electric Start.... 1965 last year of the Pan Heads....1st year Electric Start....

I've never heard of an early release Shovel head in 1965,but, there were Pan head bottoms that had shovel head top ends mated to them by DIYers... done from probably '66 and up

I did have a '76 that had Hydra Glide fork tins on it and the previous owner of my '79 had "Duo Glide" fender badges to mount on the front fender, before he mangled it in a ditch:rolleyes:

An awful lot of the old iron that's still on the road are made up from a few different generations of Harley's(Frankenstein)....that's one of the great things about them, they haven't really changed much over the years(except the TC's)but the old stuff has a lot of parts that will fit and work on a lot of different years:D
