I just rebuilt my cv carb with the cvp performance kit. It was running fine prior...and runs even better now! Although I seem to have a 'wavering' idle between 50-75 RPM. This just occurs at idle...no changes at steady cruising at all. I have my idle set at 950 and it jumps up too 990 or down to 920...it wavers. I never noticed this before...and quite honestly, I don't think I ever payed any attention before either. I do have a digital tach, and I'm wondering if what I am seeing is normal given the accuracy of the digital or if I am just being anal as hell. The bike sounds & rides just fine. My initial thoughts are air leaking into the a/f mixture screw and it's idle hunting or a tiny air leak at the manifold. I ran a quick propane test by the manifold and it didn't steady it out. Is a 50-75 RPM fluctuation normal to see on a digital or could this be something else? This is a 2003 Night Train Stage 1 and I am running 2" open drags. No other mods. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. JMO

Sounds like you already covered anything I would of suggested checking for. [Air leak]

My friends EVO with a dig tach does that too. Mine isnt dig and it does it too. No leaks, I'd say normal from my eyes on mine and my friends dig.

If I read ya right, your concern is based on what the tach is reading and not what your ears or body feel are sayin'. So I'd have to go with the tach just fluctuating on the read, as that will happen on tachs. The analog ones hide the fluctuations of feed voltage better, due to the need for needle travel (smooths transitions out). More important is what your feeling and hearing. A tach is a good aid, but it can read zero and you'll still be running fine, under some conditions (fuse blown, wire broke). Now if it felt weird, too, then you might have an issue.

I truly appreciate everyone's feedback. I think that it's safe to say I should just enjoy the ride and stop sweating the small (and most likely non-existent) stuff. Thanks again for all of your responses...it's exactly what I needed to hear!

I have an analog tach on my EFI King and it fluctuates like that too...just don't look at it when idling lol :D
