81 shovelhead flhs the bike starts good and warms up sounding good but when I take off it starts cutting out in the first 50 feet then dies at around 200 feet and wont start again for about 20 minutes, then the same thing. I replaced the rectifer and it ran for awhile then the same thing. A friend checked the amps at battery and its good , I was told to check the ignition module according to the book I have one but according to the bike I dont, the wires from the electronic ignition straight to the coil. any suggestions

Could be the stock ignition was changed to an aftermarket ignition in the nose cone...take the points cover off to see whats under there....If it's a Crane Hi-4,some older versions were susceptible to the heat there and would fail...

    Good luck...keep us posted

Make sure the service manual is for your year bike. Sometimes, previous owners changed back to points/condensor ignition. Like Lucifer, I'd say since there is no module, the ignition inside the cone has been changed to something else . . .

Have you checked the ignition circuit breaker? If it trips out it takes a few minutes to self-reset.
