OK boys, I have a tech question fer youse guys. My Ignition switch is acting up. The bike always starts but sometimes the speedometer and other dash lights do not work OR, the warning lights do not go out after its running. My solution has been to wiggle the switch and it fixes the problem until next time I start bike. I took the dash out (tank dash) and sprayed contact cleaner into the underside of the switch module and it helped a little. SO, I know I need to replace it. What I don't know is can I keep the same key (tumbler) and somehow move it to the new module?

Before I start to take it apart, I figured I'd ask!

    Thanks!

Seems like you might have some corrosion in the contacts...If you order a new switch from the mother ship,I'm pretty sure it'll come set up for your key, after you call and get a price for a new switch you'll probably want to try to clean the contacts;)if you go aftermarket, a locksmith should be able to set the tumblers for you....I'd try to clean it up first...baking soda, water, tooth brush and dielectric grease are the tools you'll need, put a mixture of baking soda and water in the plug and on the switch contacts and let it sit for a beer, give it a good scrubbing with the tooth brush, rinse and repeat if necessary, have another beer anyway:D:cheers: dry it them off and apply a little dab of dielectric grease around the plug(not too much, the grease doesn't conduct electricity)see if that cures the problem...good luck:)

Oh yeah, you might want to disconnect the battery first:p

Thanks Lucifer but I sprayed contact cleaner into the switch assembly already in order to clean the contacts and it slightly improved it but still bad. The connector contacts are fine its inside the assembly AND I found a parts beakdown thanks to Charlie46 and it doesn't come apart. IF, IF I had the key code I could order the switch to work with the keys I have BUT, the original owner didn't save the code and it's not on the key. I gotta buy the set for $124 (includes the fork lock).

I see....$124,is that for a new ignition switch, key and fork lock?? that's not too bad,if you bought an aftermarket switch and then got a locksmith to match it to your key, you'd probably be close to that price anyway...

Yep, that's the way I looked at it. But now I gotta figure out how to change the fork lock!

    I am a locksmith of 40 yrs.
Look at the manual on the back side of the key switch.
I've never owned a softail, so I don't remember exactly where the key switch is.
But if you order it from the dealer with your vin number it should come keyed to the same key.
Is your lock a Ace or coke machine style switch ?

See if you can find it in here
