Ignition timing on evo

What is the procedure for using timing lite on 1995 evo, and why did they change the97/ 98 models where the timing is checked at 20 degrees instead of 35 degrees?

Klunker, I got a FI so I can't help you either but you might want to start by getting a manual.

Step 1. Get the service manual. Next fire up bike and set the idle between 13-1500 RPM,put a view plug in the inspection hole before starting bike or wear goggles and old clothes and be ready for an oil bath. The advance timing mark should be centered in the hole,if not rotate the ign plate until it is then tighten the plate..Timed:devil:

No,not yet, but I'll see if I can dig it up for ya. Are you running the stock ign?? 99% of the time my bud just static times em. Since he sets the timing on the bikes I'll ask him how he static times the stock ign's, it's a lot less messy and does the job.

yes the ignition is stock.The reason I am asking is because my bike is actually a 98 fatboy,but a few years ago I had some warranty work done on engine and the flywheels were replaced with part "23906-93B.The timing marks on this flywheel when viewing timing marks in inspection hole have "o" mark that appears first. Then a "oo" mark, and finally the "l" mark for tdc. My 98 manual shows that you use the "oo" mark, for 20degrees advance,but I think the 95's were timed at 35 degrees.So which mark do I use on the flywheel that is now in bike?? Thanx,Klunker
