My central air conditioner unit went out yesterday, was hoping I could make it till the fall and git a new heat pump
    It was 88 * yesterday.

Been hoping it would make it a little longer, but that didn't happen.

And its raining again. Will rain today and worst tomorrow.
We already had like 19" plus this year.

Nobody will come out and give a estimate in the rain either to replace the unit.

Don't think that will work out too well with the OL and her job.
She has a job with a Oil Company. And her position ain't in Oregon.
And I would bet a cats ass it snows there.
I will not live where it snows for no amount of Money.

Sounded like something was hammering outside. Wife opened the window and thought someebody was on the roof at 1:00 am.
She went outside in the dark with a little flashlite.
I got up and the fan blade would bo Pop and move like 1/8 of a inch and do it over and over.
The unit is like over 20 yrs old.
The unit has been costin like 225.00 during the summer and around 300.00 in the winter. I keep the air on 78 during the summer and on 68 during the winter.
The electricity bill is eatin my lunch.
I might as well put the money into a Heat pump.
Called two different folks. One carries a carrier, one a trane unit.
Neither has called back to give a price.

cool..just thought maybe it would be something simple we might could get going until you get some cash saved up.. Trane & Carrier are both well known equipment manufacturers..but in my opinion you do pay extra just for the name. Arco-Aire is what I have..its made by Carrier so basically the same equipment but less money because you don't pay for the name, also Trane is made by American Standard and same applies for them. I would get a price from Arco & Am. Standard dealers to compare cost.JMO could save several hundred.

by the way I would say probably 80% of premature failure of equipment is due to poor installation, I would stick with a company with good reputation..a lot of fly by night guys do this kind of work cheap, but don't use proper piping techniques, or even electrical being properly sized that lead to equipment failure.

    Check out Bryant vs Carrier

Bryant is the non advertised side of the Carrier company so you pay less
    for the same quality...

    Central Air Conditioners - Bryant

Get the highest Seer AC/Heat Pump you can afford
and that your ducts can handle. The higher the number
the more efficient the unit, the less it has to run to cool the house

Go to the Bryant site, put in your zip code and see if anyone
will service the area, you'd be surprised, they can load the whole
thing in a van and have you done in a New Yawk City minute...

You are going to have to look at having new pipes/copper
I would not let them use the old stuff if the guy wants to
"save you a few buck" send him down the road...

They are right the majority of screw ups are install related
Bryant and Carrier have classes for installers, and I have a friend in
Dallas that sold his Carrier shop a few years back..

Put in a 13 seer bryant my home cools way way faster than with the older
unit. 13 was the best I could get at the time. Now they have 17 maybe even over 20.

YOur vents and ducts will dictate to some degree what you can do, but you'll
see the place cool down quicker, and it will run less...

Not far off how many tons?
    Does that include piping

Also if house is really old 25 year old system might want him to replace ducts with new material and make sure all are sealed good

You can spend a ti cooling the attic
