Import Harley to Australia

    ...just wondering if anyone has info on bringing a new Harley into Australia...buy in America from a regular dealer and ship it out to Oz. Will it pass Australian emission regulations in US form? Can you get a compliance plate without too much drama?

    I can only tell you that the emissions will be up to par with Australia. The dealership that is local to me is always selling bikes to those visiting from different South Pacific nations so obviously it's worth it to some people depending on their country. I would think that the red tape would be horrible, but perhaps dealers have it all worked out. There is also that little matter of taxes and inmport fees to consider. A good way to find out is to visit a large dealership and ask them.

    Other than the exchange rate, is there any reason why you don't want to buy down there? The savings would have to be substantial to make the effort worth while.

    There appears to be no duty, just 10% Goods and Services tax. There would be a substantial saving given a price in the US of $13,000 vs $27500 here as the AUD is currently .84 USD. I am checking out the compliance plate issue and will post the result.
