I can remember being at work that day, everything stopped and all eyes were on the TV, it looked like a movie trailer, could not believe it was real. Then the airspace was shutdown, and the local airport was clogged with airliners and everyone in the city had houseguests for a day or two until the runways were cleared. Unreal.

I remember it like it was yesterday...My office is about 27 blocks away...We made an orderly exit...The fire drills we have every 6 months paid off...Could have been a fricking mess in the stair wells...Trample to death...We actually got through the tunnel just before they closed everything down...I lost two friends and Jacque lost several...

I was sitting at the toll plaza for the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel trying to make a meeting on the 73rd floor of the World Trade Center II tower with civil engineers with the Port Authority of NY & NJ. (This traffic tunnel connects Brooklyn to Manhattan island under the East River. It exists in Manhattan about two blocks from the WTC) I had stopped at a customer in Brooklyn first and was running late. I couldn't understand why the tunnel police had stopped all traffic from entering the tunnel. Then fire engines and all kinds of emergency vehicles started going into the tunnel with lights and sirens. I thought that there must be one hell of an accident in the tunnel. I tuned the radio to 1010 am news radio to hear that a small plane hit one of the towers. All I had to do was look up through the windshield and I saw the second hit. I don't remember how but apparently I was able to get off the roadway and turned around heading out of there. I do remember getting one cell call off to the wife who was teaching at her school out on the island before all the lines went dead. I also remember yelling out my vehicles windows at the firemen on their trucks as they were heading in to the disaster that the towers will fall. After all, I was very familiar with the shirty type of construction. I had several fishing buddies that were firemen. I don't recall much else of the hour plus drive home or the rest of the day. I took me a year to go back into NYC. You see I was working in the Trade Center garage in '93 and was leaning on a Ryder rental van that was parked illegally and in my contractors way. We left the garage 15 mins before that van blew up. I lost a couple of business contacts then and several on 9/11. A lot of my products were used to repair leaking cracks in the "bathtub" (foundation) of the WTC but I had to have another engineer flown in to cover for me. For several hours One of my sons that said goodbye to me that morning and asked where I was headed "to the World Trade Center" though I died there. He got messed up in the head for quite a while since his mom died when he was a toddler. I tried to volunteer to go in the army and be in my sons unit when he was deployed to Iraq. They don't want old guys. I figure they think us old guys will kill too much. I would.

I don't know if scary is the right description. Anger is more like it. Intense anger. White hot anger. Sadness too. Extreme sadness. I didn't lose loved ones. I wasn't injured. I was very very very effin angry. I really don't think scared was part of it.

Didn't mean you were scared just a scary situation there for all. I do understand the anger part about what happened. I think all true Americans are still angry about it.

I cannot begin to imagine the trauma and the suffering you guys went thru. Like you I heard that a small plane flew into the World Trade Center and thought how the heck can someone fly into a building that size. Got to the computer at work and found out exactly how someone can do just that. I was stunned, I still can't believe that someone could do that. They say that was the day the world changed, I believe it. I'll never look at life the same way ever again. God Bless all.

Well one thing is for sure .none of those that past away that day died in vein .people in this country changed for the better .those that are true Americans that love this country and that love our heavenly father drew close together.God gave us a wake up call .and said dont forget what values this country was founded on .love one another take care of one another .worship and love one god like I told you .dont let anyone come between us. Do I think god let this happen No absolutely not . But did he use this Tragedy as a lesson to bring us closer together. Yes you see if you read the good book he gave us freee will to do right and wrong. We fall short every day .yet he will never forsake us .those animals don't know our heavely father .and when judgment day comes he will deal with them .for hurting his children. And he does it everyday brothers!

I was self employed during that time and getting ready to go to work. Mac the Wife calls me from work and tells me a plane crashed into the WTC. I turn on the TV and minutes later I'm watching as the second plane crashed into the other tower. Unbelievable! I stayed home all day watching as the news unfolded. I hope I never live to see another day like that one . . .
