2003 Dyna. Bought the kit w/thumb-screw adjuster. Installed this evening. Question: OE needle was sitting on 3 little washers. Didn't know there were three until I took them out and they fell apart. Anyway, I didn't put them back in when I used the new needle....not a problem, right?

Someone had been in the carb before. Slow jet was #48 and the main was #180. (stock was suposed to be 45/190) I installed the recommended #48/195. Wonder what that was trying to accomplish....

Also: slide had been drilled..1/8" bit goes through, but 9/64s won't. Problem?

    SE II exhaust/SE Stage 1 air-cleaner kit.

I'm going to install new manifold seals tomorrow and drain the gas tank for new gas. Sunday/Monday I'll see how it runs.

Shoulda ordered rebuild kit and accelerator kit.....will do(did).

    Thanks!

change the slide ! wont run good at 70% throttle if hole is to large in slide . it will bounce and hunt for position .

Since asking about the washers I've found out those were part of a Dyno-Jet kit. Located new slide locally at a better price than the local HD store and will install it. The carb guy I talked with had no idea why 48/180 jets were used or what that combo was trying to accomplish. Oh well......

(considered the idea of JB-ing the old hole and drilling a 7/64" hole on opposite side,,,,,not sure why that wouldn't work, but new is better)

I would not use jb weld on the carb slide . first thing i would worry about is have it come loose and stick in a valve seat and wreck the motor . or have it beat the crap out of the top of the combustion chamber and or piston. next would be the weght of the slide . last the vacum hole needs to be at the wright positon to work as a venturi to lift so the oposing side would not work in the proper manner .

Yep, new slide is the way to go...could get ugly if you filled the hole and later some of the JB broke free and got sucked in the intake...

Agree, new slide is the way to go. I've personally used JB Weld but unless you are willing to prep the surfaces for it to adhere properly and are experienced with it then I don't recommend it.

Regarding the washers or shims on the needle, don't use them on the new needle in the CVP kit. Also be sure to use the newly supplied emulsion tube and not the Dyno Jet version. The DJ tube is designed to only work with their needle and jets so combining that with either the CVP products or OE products is a battle to get tuned. This is why CVP products were designed to mix and match with OE so that those tuning wouldn't be cornered into using only one brand later down the road.
