A 97 softail was brought over because it quit running, It has sat all summer and they decided to get it running. They rode it around the block and it quit. I checked it out and found the cam senser to be bad. Replaced it got it running then called it a night, when I came home from work the following day I went to fire it up and before it started the engine seized. To make a long story a little shorter I found the inner cam bearing failed and pieces of the needles ended up between crank and cases. Now for the reason of my post, the journal where the inner bearing presses into was gouged, can the journal be bored out and sleeved to hold a new bearing? Or do I have to look around for a set of cases. Or option two is a 97 softtail with 26000 miles worth an exchange motor directly from HD to the tune of aprox. $3800.00.

    Thanks in advance
    Tom

Did some checking today on the cases, Local HD shop and a couple of machine shops said there would be no problem with welding up the case and machining a new hole. None of them recomended boring out and putting in a bushing to hold a new bearing. The cost would be between $150.00 and $200.00. Now I need to get back with the owner and see what he wants to do. I'll post when I know more.
