Hello, I have been riding and rebuilding bikes for myself & friends for over 30yrs. My first bike was a 72' Sportster with a 12" over front end. After 3 months I tore it completely apart and rebuilt the top end and sent out everything to be chromed. Took the tube front end off and replaced it with a 13" over Girder front end. Took off the old wiring harness and rewired the whole bike myself, all this was done in a friends garage with the help of his father who had been a Pipe Fitter and had been building bikes while I was just a "Little ****". He had been in the process of building a Trike with a Volkswagon Engine for a power plant while I rebuilt my bike. He would give me advise and ideas, but no help as he said "You learn more by doing it yourself". He painted the bike for me though! After 3-4 months it was finally done and after just 3 kicks the bike fired-up "OH HOW HAPPY COULD ONE MAN BE"! I sold it about a 2 yrs. later and bought another 72' Sportster Hardtail it was all in boxes. Put that one together in my apartment living room. Next came my 72' Super Glide in 1980 also in boxes, put that together in a carwash where my brother was a manager at the time. Over the years I had rebuilt it several times to change things on it, paint ,sent out parts to be rechromed, put 3.5gal. Fatbob Tanks in place of the stock 72' tank, Top end rebuild, Replaced the stock front end with a newer Duel Disc Sportster front end that I replaced the triple trees with Super Glide trees. The bike saw Daytona Bike week for several years including the 50th Anniversary! Then after 14yrs. of marriage a my son came into the world in 1994!!! 6 months before he was born I went to the Harley Dealer and For the very first time in my Bike Life I bought my FIRST NEW BIKE!!!!! A 1994 Heritage Softail Classic. The day my son was born I gave my 72' Super Glide to him which has been in storage since 94'. I told him when he is ready we will tear it down and put it back together the way he wants it to be! I have been doing things to my Heritage since I bought it!!! But thats another story for a later date!!! Hope Ya'll Liked A Little Story About My Life!!! RIDE SAFE!!!! Heritagerider94!! SEE YA!!!

Yup, welcome to Bike Talk. There are a lot of geezers here (myself included, lol) that have built custom bikes too, but they are mostly baggers now! I built mine with much help from the guys here on the forum. You will be hard pressed to find a better bunch of bikers anywhere.
