just finished building a bike with lots of help. Problem is the main mechanic that helped me can kickstart the bike and I'm having a hard time doing so. Admitedly the only kickstart bike I ever had was back in 1978 a 175CC honda a little different than the pandamonium motor on this ride. Any suggestions?

    A little more info?

Hmmm, every kicker I ever owned had its own formulae for firing it up. And everytime you changed part of the equation it shifted the process a bit. So first of all. what motor you running, what carb and what ignition system? But if everything is right it should be 2 kicks with the switch off and choke on then turn the switch on, back the choke off half way and it should light up. Thats if the motors cold. If its warm it should bust off on 1 kick. And as an old timer that limps when it rains....get a buton, they don't ever fall through on ya....<Grins> Ride Free!

I think retarding the timing would cause an overheat problem. I read an article written by Sonny Barger and he had the same problem. He actually lengthened the kick arm by about 2 inches (if I recall correctly). I think it gives more leverage and possibly more stroke. He mentioned that the bigger guys, 250 lbs. plus, had no problem kicking their bikes over, but, he only weiged about 150 and it would not fire up on the first kick.

'Would like to hear from some of you veterans on this.

My ride has both a button and kick, its an 80in shovel and when its warm it wont fire up with the kicker, have tried all kinds of combos but have decided that the points have to go for electronic ignition and going to single fire instead of dual. I also redid the wiring cause it was old an messed up, now I have more voltage going to the Accel coil and am working on getting better voltage direct to the starter, hopefully all this will help with the kicker problem, I am a big guy so it kicks over easy for me but only when its cold or cool. If anyone has some suggestions feel free to kick it in
