The weekend before last, three of us took a ride from my home in Maidstone Kent (UK) to the Lake district via the Yorkshire dales.. Total distance was around 830 miles.. Rode up on the Saturday, spent Sunday there and returned on the Monday.

Three of us went, me (Harley 1200 Sportster), my son Steve (Honda Hornet 600) and a friend Simon (BMW 1200).

Longest trip I have done on the Harley and must say it just kept on chuggung along... More comfy than the other bikes based on what they said.. Would really like a softail heritage but need to find some cash.:)..or maybe a fat boy..

If anyone is planning this trip and want to chat..let me know.. It rained on our way up and back again so a rather damp trip but fun!

The Lake District is really nice with narrow (very) roads and a bit bumpy on a long bike but beautiful scenery.. Tend sto get a lot of rain but that is why the vegetation is so lush. Interesting slate type walls used on the houses too.

I have some photos , just need to see how to upload them to the forum..:)

I would as well, however preferably in a cab because after the second or third stop at a distillery to inspect the local Single Malt fare, I wouldn't want to be riding...:roflmao:

Sounds like a great trip. I'd love to see some pictures, it has been some years since I have been to the lakes. These days, living further south, I tend to do weekend trips south and west of the smoke - it rains less.

The journey I took was from Maidstone in SE England, around teh M25 motorway, up the A40 and cicled around on the East into the Yorshire Dales and then dropped into Ambleside (lake District) from the North. When I cam back is was down the M6 Motorway.. shorter route. I had to work Monday night at 6:30 so couldn't do a mini tour on the way home.. I think direct route form my house is about 370 miles.. the extra was the Yorkshire Dales tour on the way up.

Meeting up sometime would be good. We are just off the A40 in NW London. If you are ever passing this way give me a shout.

We are off to Dorset this weekend. South and west to cider land. Staying at an Inn in Lulworth. Should be fun.

The following weekend to central Wales. Wales on August Bank Holiday, bound to be torrential rain.

    Hi Ashley
Sounds like you go on regular runs around the country.. I owuld like to join you some time .. will see which weekends I am not working and maybe find a time to join up.

I am just helping my son move house this weekend and my niece is here for a few more weeks so time is a bit limited... However, sound slike you go in the rain too..:)

Do you go in a big group or just a couple of you?

    Hi Malcolm,

Normally just the two of us on the one bike, and yes, riding in rain happens. See the Lulworth / Dorset thread.

It would be cool to meet up but after this coming weekend in Wales we are doing stuff involving planes for a few weeks. But sure, maybe later in the year.
    Ashley
