Leaking Gas - Chinese Bike

    Hey everyone,

    I'm new to the forum, so nice to meet you all. I'll get right to the point.

    I'm an American from Wisconsin, but I'm currently living in Hainan, China right now studying Chinese here at a University. I recently baught a 125cc motorcycle. I've got about 200km on it, and it hasn't given me much trouble. I only paid 4100rmb for it, or about $700 US for it brand new. I know, cheap right?

    Anyway, today I was really having some fun with it, going through all 5 gears pretty quickly, and accellerating pretty hard on it, and I noticed that the middle engine area perhaps near the carburater is leaking gas. It's leaking pretty well. When I parked it afterword, there was a visible puddle of gas underneath the center of the bike.

    I'm not sure what advice yall can offer since A. it's cheap, and B. it's Chinese make, but I figured I'd ask around before taking it to the mechanic. I should say, iv'e never experienced this problem before, and I'll update yall if the tank is empty in the morning.

    I did read around a bit before I posted. I will say that, the tank is about half full, and I filled it up about 3 days ago, so it's not because of a full tank. I'm guessing this is directly from the way I was driving it.

    But seriously look for a leak at a hose connection, leak from Carburator, bad weld on tank. Could be from a number of things but you'll need to clean it real well then look where there is gas leaks. Just don't use an ignition device. Good luck.

    Does only leak when parked ? Or all the time ? Either way double check the fuel lines for cracks

    So just an update,

    When I went out this morning, the bike's tank was empty. I started it, and let it run for a couple seconds, and then checked the fuel lines. It turns out the fuel lines are held by a little piece of metal wire. One of the wires was loose, and the fuel line was half way off. When I touched it, it just fell off completely. I put it back on, and tightened the clamp, and put 20rmb (3 dollars) worth of gas in it, so I'll take it out later to see if that solves the problem.

    dan double check all the hoses you don't want the engine heat to start a fire right under your man hood :eek:

    Haha, I have. I'm wondering if the fuel lines are clamped the same way in USA? The wire clamps seem pretty flimsy, and it seems to me the pressure of accelerating too hard can loosen them.

    Can you give any advice on how to better secure the fuel lines? Should I look for better clamps? Just check for leaks every time I park the bike?

    On my old S and S super E carb I just use hose clamps at the fuel petcock and the carb. There is one thing about hose clamps, They vibrate loose unless they are brand new. That means when one loosens the hose clamp to take some hose off and then tightens it back down again it will not hold. They want one to buy a new hose clamp every time. I found out stainless steel ones, purchased at a hardware store, can get used alot and never vibrate loose.

    most asian bike use the mechanic wire clamps zip ties seem like a good cheap fix and dont come loose . works real good fdor those small carbs .have them on my son go ped . they make a zip tie plier that gets them good and tight . its the ratchet type plier

    Gas with ethanol in it is hard on fuel lines. I had to stop using the clear see thru kind. Now a tough black one is used so the line will not crack again and start leaking.
