Take the safety course first like Cowboy said and go down to a local motorcycle shop and have them help you with the proper riding gear.

It all depends on what you want to spend. The best textile Kevlar-armored stuff is unbeatable, but otherwise leather has proven effective since about 1903 for riders...and a whole lot longer for cowboys and cows. Cheap textile stuff is what cows leave behind, so go go expensive or go leather.

looking to get a Honda VT250 custom cruiser. Not very powerful but given i have not been on a bike before, i don't want to much power to start with. I will definetly do the course before i get my L plates but just a little worried about coming off the bike. We get alot of rain and I will be riding 5 days a week to work (30k each way) so I have plenty of opportunities to come off the bike. I think I will check out the top of the range textile. Looks better i think. Thanks to everyone how replied.

Check out the bike via the following link.

Looks like the bike should work, Honda makes a good ride. Never thought about Australia having much rain. :)
