Should have hydralics if nobody changed them. My 78 superglide had hydralics till I changed them to solids.

all shovels ran stock hydraulic tappets. adjustment is simple. loosen locknut and turn adjustment screw in until u have up and down slack. turn screw out and remove all up and down movement. then turn screw out another 4 turns and tighten lock nut. if u have doubts about the lifter being collapsed, remove pushrod and hydraulic unit. insert a small pick into the hole at the bottom of the hydraulic unit and push the top part of the unit in completely. this will bleed the pressure off. re- install the unit and pushrod. adjust as previously mentioned. make sure the hydraulics havent been replaced with solids or aftermarket hydraulic lifters. hope this helps.

Opened up push rod tubes tonight, it appears the lifter has a spring protruding out of the top and the pushrod seats in the end of the spring. Is the adjustment still the same, 4 complete turns?

    Thanks

sounds like you have the stock units. they have a spring around the piston , that sits in a small relief on top of the hydraulic body. that would be 4 turns from no up and down slack.
