    Hey all
i am new to this forum so forgive my clumsiness.

I have just sold my KLX250 (1990) and am looking at getting a second hand sport bike.

    Here is my debarcle,
I want a more powerfull sport(road) bike however i am paranoid about the weight of the bike itself.
I only weigh 68 kilos myself so i am struggling to find a light sport bike that is more then 250 cc. ( I dont want to be weighting at a light in the rain and sliding all over the place to keep the bike up)

Focusing on the more major (common) brands (e.g Kawasaki honda suzuki yammaha etc) is there anything that you guys could suggest that is light and bigger then 250 cc?
I like the idea of the CBR400 however there are 2 available in sydney and both arnt in the best condition.

    Penny for your toughts

I don't know how much 68 kilo's is - how much in pounds? I weigh 140 lbs. (63.5 kilo's)and have no problem holding up my shovelhead bobber, which weighs a bit under 500 lbs. (226.8 kilo's).

It's about 149 pounds. Most women at that weight can hold up a Harley. Men have more muscle mass so it's even easier to hold up a bigger bike.

Your wading into a pool of Harley owners. So expect a lot of Harley recomendations. I would say any of the Softails are very easy for a new Harley owner to handle. Fatboys.Classics,Heritages or Dynas such as Lowriders,Superglides. Many Harleys have a very low center of gravity.

Well it is called Bike Talk and it is open to all bikes however seems that the only ones that Hang are Harley riders. Maybe we should be more open I guess.
Except I for one don't know a thing about sport bikes and don't want to.

how long is your inseam? leg length. most 600's are pretty light. It helps to be able to flat foot while the bike is stopped. I think this is more important than worrying about the weight of the bike. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the big four. I liked the Honda CBR's. What you will find is that the front end will feel heavier on a sportbike than your KLX, especially on gravel, that will take some getting used to. any 600 is enough bike to have a lot of fun or get into a lot of trouble with.

Key is center of mass, you can weight 68 kilos and hold up a 363 Kilo bike
if you can get your feet flat on the ground.

Higher center mass IE sporty makes it more difficult to manage
for shorter people where a softail that weighs 1.5 times as much
is easy for the same person to balance.

Best bet is to go to shops and sit on one and find the bike
    that fits your size,

If your feet aren't flat footed on the ground while sitting on the bike, that bike ain't for you, no matter how big or small or what brand or style. I also would say you might consider bikes that are at least 650 cc's. You'll soon find anything smaller inadequate. Maybe you could find an old Triumph since you're way down under. They were great handling bikes, fast, and had a low center of gravity.

I rode a suzuki 750 for a couple of years after a 10 year break from riding and found it to be light enough for city riding but had the legs for long distance runs. Their a bit light in high winds but other that that very stable. I put a fairing and bags on it and even two up it was big enough if you didn't want to run at 80-90 mph all day.

All righty. I guess im going to get out there and try out a gsx 650 or Fireblade. Much appreciate all your help. With australia's luxury vehicle tax now exceeding 15% i think ill let the harleys go.
Thanks for all your help. I shall post the results soon.
    cheers

Since you like sport bikes, I was going to suggest the Ducati 889. That bike is just INSANE! A lot of HP, a sleek and sexy bike. Brand new, the 011's were just 14k. That Is a very reasonable price!!

buying a Duc is cheap..compared to a Harley..keeping them running, if you let the dealer service it, can run into some serious money. They are fun to ride though.

My first bike that I had is a 98 Suzuki Intruder 800. It weighs about 440lbs and was very easy to handle. Now I have stepped up and ride the 96 Sporty! Now on that bike I have to hold on to the handle bars because its got power and I love it!!! I think it more has to do with your comfort level not the actual weight of the bike!
