The original formula was called Eastman 910. It was released on a trial basis to IBM in the early 70's. As field engineers we had access to it and I myself used and abused it. It was deemed UN safe for release due to many fingers getting glued to all soughts of thins including eyelids and private parts. REALLY! We used to glue feet to floors of subway cars and the soul of the shoe would tear off before the stuff let go. We used to glue quarters to steel napkin dispensors in coffee shops and for weeks we would watch the edge of the table get beaten away while people tried to break the quarter off without success. I fixed many broken machine parts PERMANENTLY with it. Some years later a diluted (safe) formula was released as Crazy Glue. I used it and found that it was crap compared to the original. So I guess they are slowly increasing the strength to increase sales. But I remember fondly the original. There is one other x IBMr on this forum who could attest to these facts. The chemical name is cyanoacrylate and is extremely potent when used in 100% emulsion. They are even using some forms to replace sutures in surgery.

I seem to recall stories of this kind of stuff used as emergency field dressing in 'Nam. Is that an urban myth or does it have some basis in fact? Anyone know?

I know people who glue a cut together with it and yep it's used in hospitals. Crazy glue was crappy stuff for sure. I've repaired broken gun stocks with a a glass bedding compound glue, it don't come apart after it sets up. Have not bought any super glue in a while stuff they are selling just don't seem to work, must be that watered down stuff.
Used a lot of JB Weld for making repairs, stuff works good.

Man Cowboy that would be a mean trick to play on someone. I've known a couple guys I would have loved to do that to. Maybe that's why they don't make it so strong.

I wonder how they keep the machines that make the stuff from getting all gummed up.

Yup Fatboy. The most fun was gluing your field managers phone to it's cradle. He'd go to pick up the phone and end up slamming the whole phone against his face. Good memories

I used to work for IBM, in fact retired from them, and I can remember the CE's using that stuff all the time. I got some from one once but by the time I needed to really use it on something it was all solidified so I never saw what it would do to anything I had first hand. If it's even half as good as the original we are going to be hearing of fingers glued together again. Seems that was what happened all the time with the original.

As an x CE yep, some guys were dared to put a drop between their thumb and index finger and then used a razor blade to separate them ! Good times and profitable for me ! Ha!
