Well, here it is, boys - The best darn bread pudding on the planet!

    BREAD PUDDING
    2 cups bread cubes
    2 cups milk
    1/4 cup sugar
    2 eggs
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    2 tablespoons butter
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Use bread a day old. Cut into cubes approx. 1/4" square.
Place cubes of bread into a buttered baking dish (approx. 8" x 8")
Scald milk (or soy milk) and add butter and sugar.
Beat eggs slightly and add salt and vanilla.
Pour scalded milk over beaten aggs and mix thoroughly.
Pour mixture over bread cubes and blend together.
Set baking dish in a pan of hot water.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour or until a knife comes out clean when inserted in center.
Makes 6 servings (4 in our house!)
Serve hot or cold. (Best cold if you can wait that long!)

Note: Mac typically makes a triple batch in one large baking dish.
Do not skip using the pan of hot water!

Great! My grandma used to make me bread puddin when I was in HS. She would call me on Sat morning after playing football Friday night. Say come over I have something for you. She would make two, one for the family and one for me. I would sometimes eat almost the whole thing with a half gallon of milk. Gonna get my wife to try this.

    thanks...:)

Hope you like it! It usually takes us about a day or so to go thru a triple batch of the stuff. BTW, we live in eastern N.C. near Tarboro, in a little town called Hobgood. We moved from California in 1999 - trading in drive by shootings, drug crazed gang bangers & earthquakes for peaceful Hobgood. Best place we ever lived!

Always lived in Southeast. But did not grow up in mountains. Moved to Asheville in 1983, planned to be here 2 or 3 years tops. We fell in love with it here. Both our girls born here, we feel about it like you do Hobgood. Great roads to ride, with BRP, 100s of 1000s of acres of National Forest. Super place.

Wow, you musta been a big boy! Hey, if I ever get the Beast to run reliably, (sometimes I wonder if I'll ever get it to run at all), I'd like to get out your way. Maybe we could cruise some of the local sites. I would like to see the Wheels thru Time museum among other things.

Hey, I am all for it. Hope you can get this way, got some good rides here. Museum is great. Closed till next spring now. I did not spend near enough time in there, so I want to get back. Good ride up Blue Ridge Parkway to Maggie Valley, check out the museum, then up to Hot Springs maybe. And no, I was not real big, just ate a lot and played alot of sports. Not much bigger than you. Saw you talking about weight on a thread about a leather jacket. I weigh about what I did when I got out of HS, maybe a little less. Only about 165, probably 175 when I graduated HS.

Been reading your thread on the beast every day. Not much to say, these guys know a lot more than I do, but I have learned alot listening. Keep the faith, you'll get there, and you will get some warm days through the winter.

Looking forward to all that. Back to food, Mac made some killer pumpkin bread the other day. I'm going to get her to reveal her recipe and put it on a new post.

    ...not to take away.
Bourbon Sauce for the bread puddin

    I used 1/3's to measure ex. cup/cup/cup
    brown sugar/bourbon/evaporated milk
dollup of butter, touch of salt and a teaspoon of vanilla extract
heat all in a sauce pan till blended while continuously stirring to prevent burn.
*note...use only liquor you would drink, to cook.
