I just finished putting together my 95 flh trans. and i got to the point where i need to install the race for the main drive where it goes thru the inner primary case. the question is i was told that the way to install the race is to heat the race till it is almost transparent and then slide the race onto the main drive shaft. i don't have the special tool but i do have a press.
please lead me in the right direction. also i was told not to replace the crankcase pinion bearing, i just split the case to powder coat it..
please help spring is comming soon....
    thanks Rich

I would wait for one of the other guys to answer this question before proceeding. Kenfuzed, reesess, or a few other guys might have the correct answer for you. Sounds like you've got alot invested......too much to risk if done wrong. Sorry I can't be any help.

On a TC, when I removed it I went through various sized washers until one was the exact space behind the race so when I pressed one back on I would have the right spacing out. I had to use the tool to install because trans case is not seperate from engine like your application where you can have it out and use a press. Could use right size piece of pipe that will just go over the shaft, but butt against the race for driving/pressing it on. Heating up just the race will help for sure.

Zippers makes a replacement bearing for the rear primary cover, it is a high load bearing and it eliminates that bearing race on the shaft.

check with www.zippersperformance.com, one of the good things is under heavy load the race can walk on the mainshaft and cut the seal, by eliminating this the new bearing runs right on the mainshaft.

Just installed one on my 00 Heritage and did a 98 RK last year, it simply replaces the bearing in the HD inner primary cover.
