master cylinder

    Hi, Can anyone tell me where I can get an OEM front master cylinder for a 1979 FXE, or inform me of a way to clean the one I have.The one I have leaked so I installed a rebuild kit.now the piston won't retract.It was very scummy inside. thanks,Bernie

    are you looking for an original oem or a copy....they are both out there. a swap meet or ebay for an original in the box cylinder....or try direct parts for a copy of the original.

    in your original post, i thought you had already rebuilt the cyl. yes they need to be honed when rebuilding, yes they need to be cleaned real good when rebuilding. make sure all the passage ways are clean!!! be sure to install all the new rubbers and springs. have fun with it and if ya still have a prob. just ask!!!:D

    I don't remember the OE as being black to begin with. A little cleaning and some good paint would do it though.

    Depending on how pitted the bore is, you may be able to use a rebuild kit after using a slave / wheel cylinder hone. Since it is a Wagner and they are pretty generic looking, you can get an OE Wagner or an aftermarket one.

    New Problem 79fxe

    :confused: :rolleyes: I honed out the cyclinder and everything went well, I have a good pedal after I bled it all out,and no leaks. Now I have a new problem.When I hit the start button the engine will turn over about a half turn and then I lose all power ( main breaker trips ) after 10seconds the power will return ( main breaker clicks back on) When I use a screw driver to jump the main breaker the bike starts right up until I remove the screw driver then I lose all power again.I replaced the main breaker,the starter relay,installed a new battery and cleaned all grounds....any Ideas????thanks ,Bernie

    are you using the correct size breaker as specified in your service manual??? if all else works, it seems it may be a bit to small......

    i think you have a "hot" wire in the start/run circuit going to a ground. i would look between the relay and starter, then back track to the button. the wiring diagram should help here. the small wire on the solonoid COULD be grounded, but probably not, as the bike starts.
