Well I finally worked up the courage to change my scooters oil again. It really is a pain in the butt. Spin off the filter and oil runs down the front left side of engine into the pan. Behind the regulator, a wire or two, around the florrboard mounting bracket, engine mount and other things. Put bike on jack and level and drop the oil in the tank. I got me a scavenger that pumps out the remaining oil in the dry sump (which really isn't dry. Semi-dry sump?!) What a mess. Place a "puck" where the filter goes, pull oil return line from tank and hook-up a clear hose. Fill oil tank with fresh oil and start bike. Observe the oil pumping out and once clean oil comes out shut off engine, disconnect hose, replace return line into tank, unscrew puck (dropping oil onto the before mentioned things) all over again, put on new filter. Top off oil tank, re-start, let run for 30 seconds, shut off and re-fill oil tank.

Clean up drain pans, throw away a dozen oil soaked rags, spread speedy dry all over the garage floor, broom it around and clean that up, put old oil into jugs for later recycling, spread more speedy dry on floor.....

Any of you guys want to buy this scavenger device from me??? :gah:

The job is so simple it ain't even funny.
All you need to do is tear a piece of cardboard and stick it under the filter and pull it off.
Then pullone plug and the motor oil shoots out.
A little teflon tape and the screw seals.
You can sip Cold Redneck Budweiser while you do it.

Oh wait. I got a bike lift table.......

No thanks.;) The oil filter on a twinkie is on the feed side(oil goes through the filter before the engine)so if you wanted to do the 5 quart oil change why not just drain the oil install the new filter disconnect the return line and run it to a jug then start the engine and run it until clean oil comes out the return line...no need for the "puck"
On an Evo the filter is on the return side so just leave the filter off and run it until clean oil comes out,no need for the "puck"
JMHO For the amount of oil that is left in the cases it's not really worth the time or effort to do it at all...did it on the Evo once for sheits and giggles and only a couple of ounces came out before the clean oil

I exagerated a bit. Not too much of a mess. I've tried the cardboard trick, the aluminum foil trick, the $15 plastic device trick and the filter always makes a mess. The purge device is in the trash, never again. I was just blowing off some steam sitting here with my Jack on the rocks!

Sounds more complicated than it should be. I think Cardboard has the right idea! I use a piece of cardboard, too, and funnel mine right into an old shallow baking pan. I don't care what's left in the motor - it'll mix in with the new oil just fine! Also have a magnetic drain plug.

I bought the plastic device and they supplied a nail which you pierce the outer ring of the filter up at the cap end then you rotate the filter 180 degrees and let the filter drain out before you remove it..works like a hot damn
