How can i adjust the choke on my Mikuni to prevent the choke knob from sliding back in. I don't have the HD thumb wheel to tighten the choke cable, there must be an adjustment somewhere that will tight the cable so that it will not just release on it's own.

the locking thumb ring is the only adjustment on the choke cable. i have used an alligator clip to hold while warming up.....worked ok, not great, but ok......

Right, +1 what Chuck said. That little plastic thumb nut (for lack of a better name) compresses a collet around the cable. If it or the collet has worn your only other option is to replace the cable.

The choke cable did not come with the "collet" aka the HD choke cable style.

There must be a way to adjust it. thx for the replies just the same.

choke cable is about $10 at HD, a CV carb choke cable should fit the Micky Rooney carb.

Take the carb or current cable off and take it in, you might just have to change end fitting

You must have the Mikuni cable.... the adjustment on the Mik cable is only for doing free play, there is a detent in the cable that holds it out,it must be worn on yours if it won't stay out. If you switch to the HD cable you have to swap the HD plunger to the Mikuni one.

I've found that if you lubricate the choke cable it will not stay out. Might try spraying it with some brake cleaner to degrease.
