In response to Roadsterguy on the old "ran out of gas" thread (yes, it finally did run out of gas!) : I think getting a newer oil bag cap, with a dip stick no less, is a nod in the "more modern" direction I'm taking, but about as far as I'm willing to go for now :p.

Yeah, like the three monkees say: Hear no evo, see no evo, speak no evo. Not to say the evo motor isn't a good motor - it is a very good motor - just doesn't look or sound like the shovelhead. Nothing is sweeter music to my ears than my shovel at idle :D.

Imagine how happy the world would be if we all could ride what we love. Glad to hear you love the shovel, just as I enjoy my Sporty. Just don't put no darn GPS system on it!LOL!

The new Harley's GPS units cause more wasted time in our club. Apparently the consensus is they suck. I carry a map. Never wrong

A map on my lap never lies. A truckers road atlas is hard to beat for travel, and it does not track my location to "help" me. Where I go and how I get there is my business, not some company with a bunch of satellites.

GPS rules. Never let me down. Maps get me to the general area..GPS gets me to specifics. When I went to R.I. this summer no map would have found my friends house. It was deep in a heavily house neighborhood. This last trip it made me nervouse but never let me me down.

Great when riding far away to a never been before restaurant. Maps will get you close,GPS gets you the rest of the way. Just got to know how to use it. Won't not have one.

Brother in law and Sister in law love it. Won't leave home without it. It is such fun to see them try and figure out how to get somewhere different if they have not downloaded the address the night before.
I told the wife most cities have a logic to their layout and all streets lead somewhere, no worries. We get where we need to with an address, a pen, and some logic. Do we get lost? Yep, sometimes, and sometimes we find random things to stop at. I've seen the GPSers almost pull out their hair and yell at each other because the route given is mistaken and they can't reroute. They miss out on the adventure.
Like Cardboard and his ABS woes, GPS is not for me. If you like it, have fun. I can guarantee you would have found your friend's house. Likely would have seen more scenery my way, but would have found it. And some computer operator in China or India would not have been watching over your shoulder...

It's not the GPS that's the problem....

It's the operator, not learning to operate it properly....

If I did not have the GPS I would have had to call him as I got close and rode around extra. GPS got me there straight on no worries. GPS recalculates and reconfigures. It adds to the experience, not takes away. The only regret you'd have if you ever get one is why didn't you get one sooner. I use to be like you but then I tried it for myself. Glad I bought 2...one for the bike and one for the truck. Bought the truck one first. The one for the bike which I bought second can be used for both. I always carry a map, now I always carry a GPS too.

the big screen already including the GPS sucks on the 2014 ultra limitd? Are they Garmin? Interesting. The garmin 660 I had installed on my 2012 is the shit!

Its a special HD version of a GPS, all it does is route you to dealers, t-shirt stores, bars and brothels...

Well the new Harley GPS rocks. You like maps well just try spreading your map out on the tank and reading it while riding.
The screen on my 2014 is much larger and much easier to see. Routing is easier than the 660 model I know I still have my old one and keep it for the car. Like anything new you simply have to learn it and once you do its a piece of cake. Could I get along without a GPS sure but still remember trying to figure out how to get out of Washington DC when Maddog and I were there. Probably still be stuck there if not for the GPS.

I got a Tom-Tom,5" screen. Came with a suction mount. Goes right on the tank. Great for finding motels, watering holes, fuel.etc, Just use it on trips. Locally, getting lost is fun.

All I know it's something to do with limited way points and if you miss one on the route it wants ya to start the whole route over. Near as I can tell These aren't stupid people that are having trouble with the Harley GPS . But like Roadster said, the gun is the adventure and there have been many many miles of adventure with just an idea taking off a map and just going head long to whatever is in front if yer nose. That's my way anyway and as they say " whatever floats yer boat"! Jmo
