Could use a little help here.
I have noticed in the last couple of days that I have been getting some engine pinging while pulling hills, even at high speeds. It seems like it is worse today. Nothing has changed in the motor or my riding style. Motor is a 05 TC88 Carbureted, S & S Gear Driven Cams, Screaming Eagle (ignition) ECM, Carb is from Kenfuzed, V&H Big Shots Staggered, Screaming Eagle air filter system. 44,000 miles. Other than maintenance nothing has been changed on the motor in the last 25,000 miles. Service Manual tells me it could be the Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP) or the Crank Position Sensor (CKP). Has anyone had any experience with these 2 sensors? Is there a way to check them without going to the dealer? Neither one looks hard to change.

there are several things that caould cause this other than sensors. fuel quality, altitiude, load on the bike, even shifting habits.as for the map sensor , u can apply vacuum and check for a diapraghm leak. make sure the crank sensor is clean, nothing stuck to it.u might want to check compression on the engine and do a leak down. make sure everything is still in good internal condition. leaks at the rings and valves can and will cause vacuum problems. same as a leakeing manifold or head gasket.i hope this helps. let me know what you find.

I would bet that your fuel is causing the problem, this stupid ethanol is killing mileage and power on engines big time, try some octane booster, most HD shops have bottles and indy shops of octane booster, or you can get the 104 stuff at any parts store.

See if that helps cure the problem.

Be sure you fuel up at a well run, well frequented station, and use BP, Mobil or Shell.
