Today while riding down I-5 in Chehalis WA a guy was struck by lightning in his helmet. Motorist behind him reported that his whole body lighted up. He managed to stop his bike. His helmet was burned as was his neck and ears. They got him to the next exit to a convenience store where a ambulance they had emergency vehicles. They showed pictures of his helmet and it was charred and some of the wiring was burn. I'll se if I can find some local news media photos. Another rider was killed by lightening when he and his wife pulled the motorcycle over and took refuge under a tree. Right now we are having severe weather warnings as a huge lightening storm moves up the I-5 corridor. Been one of those days, :(

Dang, never heard of a biker getting zapped like that while riding. The other guy should never have gotten under a tree - heard of other people getting under trees and getting struck by lightning.

Be glad to we got enough just today alone.

HRK, they are pretty rare up here and usually cause damage. They also cause forest fires here which we don't need.

Yup...Stay away from trees...Lightning usually hits the tallest object in the area...Lay down flat on the ground if you can...

We get lightning strikes on our radio tower sometimes. Radio station was only 10 watts when it was working. The tower is the tallest thing around for miles.
