Just change over the exhaust on my 02' Heritage Classic. Stock TC88 with SE Breather kit. Had Samson Bigguns 2 short slashers with a 10" louvered baffle. Was getting 43mpg. Changed over to V&H true duals with louvered baffle. New MPG without making any other changes is 48.5 MPG. Probably going to the BCT baffles to see how they do. Who woulda thought just changing the exhaust would make such an improvement.

I'll say this...based on the size of the jugs on that engine, I'd say she definately came equipped with the big bore kit. :D

Sounds like a lean condition to me... You increased the air, now you need to increase the fuel too. Milage depends on many things but 48.5 MPG it just too conservative to be healthy for a TC. My wife's Low Rider at 1000 miles got around 51 MPG this weekend but that is a woman rider and a new stock bike....I can't get more than 44 or so and still have any power with this 95" TC and at 44 MPG, I have pinging with a throttle gag - Not Good! At 41MPG, the pinging is gone.

OH, are we still talking about milage?;)

Clem....I was kinda wondering about that. It seems to be running great. No hesitation or coughing when I run it through the gears. Same thing when I crack the throttle, no hesitation or flat spots. Wonder if I was running to rich with the old pipes? Think I'm going to throw a new set of plugs in and take it for a ride to see how their buring.

It's all in the way it performs anyhow... Sounds like it's fine if you don't have any of the pinging and etc. Look at the plugs as you change to new ones - they will tell you a lot about what the engine is doing.

I went to colder plug - from 4164's to 4162's (Autolite) and what a difference in performance. You may play with the heat range and see what you think. I refuse to use anything with platinum, indium, niobium, gold, or split fire, or any of that money munching crap and go with plain old spark plugs specific to the application within a heat range or two. Harley ought to be spanked for selling those platinum split fire plugs - especially for the price they get! Those plugs are worthless! Don't even be tempted!

Thanks for the input Clem....I don't believe in the so called wonder plugs either. I've been using the standard HD plug since the bike was new. How do the HD's compare to the Autolite? Who makes the plugs for HD?

Yep...running a carb. The only change I made is the exhaust. I already had the SE Breather on it with the old pipes, (Samson Bigguns II Short Slashers, with 10" louvered baffles). I'll check the inside of those for color.

I believe AC/Delco makes the plugs that HD sells but the name "Split Fire" is a registered trademark of a company in IL. Check this out:

    FTC: SplitFire

Now I realize that you can look the web over and find almost anything said about anything, but this one stands to reason and I never did believe that these spark plugs could do all they said they would. I'll say one thing for the advertiser of these plugs: he's an advertising genius because he sold that load of crap to the entire country! He's a multi-millionare from the profits so what does he care about a little ban now??!!!

Yes, an odd size! And finding a 'tube one way plug socket' for them is impossible. The 'one way socket' that Cruise Tools sells is either 5/8 or 3/4....

Took the old ones out, black and a little sooty. Not the nice tan color they should be. :(

sound's a little to rich still , try closeing just a 1/4 turn , & run it like that for a day Then check them again , hit or miss a few times & you'll have it right
