Anybody have any inexpensive suggetions to maybe make the seat on my 96 FXDL more comfortable, getting to be a real pain in the rear after only a 100 miles or so.:(

If you have the stock seat it would probably be easiest to find a Corbin or a Mustang seat. I had a bike like yours[same year] a while back and the stock seat eas flat out nasty

I went through a bunch before finding my Mustang seat. If you buy it from them, they'll let you try it for a week or so to make sure you like it. At least they used to.

These are good options, Corbin is hard, Mustang Firm, other option is to have it redone by a professional seat shop.

Call Mean City Cycles - Custom Seat Modifications

I find that and seams in the seat that contact my butt, on hot days and long rides starting feeling like I'm sitting on knife blades. I recently tried a Harley item, it's a seat pad that slips onto the horn of the Harley seats and is absolutely wonderfull! I picked on up, a bit pricey (about $86) but a new seat is even more. Then around town or shorter rides or cool weather I have my Harley saddle which I am pleased with (for the most part).

A good quality seat is worth every penny you pay for it and when the days are long a quality seat is welcome. I still prefer Mustang as I have done two custom seat rebuilds that just didn't work out. One left me woth a burning feeling even before I got home and the builder would not stand behind it. Hope you find a solution nothing worse than a sore and tired buttt when riding.

Another option might be to have a seat maker install a gel pad to your existing seat. La Pera does that.

Put a Mustang seat on the OL Sportster.
Both us hate the Mustang seat/
Most uncomfortable seat I've ever sat on.

You can have all the mustangs you want.

My buddy down the street had a Mustang on his Last EG, he was trying to sell me on them, like everything else, oh man they ride good, when he got his 11 RG it don't have a mustang on it and it has over 17,000 miles on it.
Ain't heard nothin about a mustang anymore or a Klock Works windshield either.
He even has the KW windshield off his last EG for sale.
    Didn't keep it on long.

Not "personally" we have a place here called Thrashers, does the same thing

However a lot of people on a couple different boards like the way they do seats, and he's a sponsor on several other forums for Road Glides that I
hit. Lots of favorable reviews, nothing negative.

FWIW the Gel seats I've heard are not great butt that's an end users
    opinion, not mine

I had Corbins on my RK's and my Softail, loved them, they are
hard like horse saddles, so if you don't like a really firm seat skip them...

Never cared for Mustangs because of the look, but I have several friends with
    them that really like them.

My new HD Hammock seat is super comfortable, but sits me
up really higher than I'd like on the bike... Still for a stock
    seat it is good.

If there is a bike event coming up in your area ride over and
they will put a seat on for you to sit on..

I kinda think the seats a good investment, in a car you can
move the seat all over with power seats, even manually now

But on a bike you are stuck in the position the seat
is in, so find one you like that is comfortable.

My ass won't but typically these companies hit the circuit
although they probably don't hit them all anymore.

Biketoberfest, Daytona, Sturgis, Laconia, Myrtle Beach etc.

I would imagine the big seat guys will be at Texas...
