I looked through some other threads and at the FAQ, and I'm not sure the answer is there. I'm inclined to tell him to come here and look through everything himself, but maybe if I can get a quick answer to the first question, he can fine tune through the readings at Bike Talk.

Anyway, he has an Evo and a CV carb. He just rebuilt the motor, and it's higher compression. He's running very lean and has tried adjusting it with the idle screw - no luck. He's wondering if he needs to re-jet it because of the engine modification.

Probably, the carb is lean to begin with for the stock engine
    because of EPA.

Tell him to drop by, we have a ton of posts on it,

We would need a bit more info on the build
but I would suggest he pick up Kens Kit as it comes with a new
needle, jets and the ez just screw.

The pilot jet probably needs to come up one size,
and CV carbs respond well to the sportster needle or
the one in the kit Ken sells.

If it's the same displacement (80) with cams
and head work etc he might need to go up
    on the main as well.

TLI (Too Little Info) - but it sure sounds like a rejet is likely needed. Regardless, he can get to the info he needs via this forum or just searching for Harley/Keihin CV on the net. Lots of good info there, and not too much bad stuff (just have him make sure he gets a second opinion).

Really, HRK is right - he should try Ken's kit. I should, too, and will if I make it to September.........

it is definatly lean....the idle screw wont do anything except raise and lower the idle speed.....the air screw will help, but wont do enough because of the new build....i agree with the others.........

I haven't got a bill for being a member on this forum yet, he just as well get on board. I agree with the rest, though, was it running fine before the build?, did he go though the carb?, and is he sure its lean (assuming its popin, fartin, and hot)or could it be getting mistakin for a bad connection at the intake or exaust to through a couple more ideas into the box.
