Thought you all might like to see my latest ride.

I started researching electric bicycles recently and did an e-bay search for bicycle motors...and this motor kit came up...ok not electric but had to have it.

Found my fathers old bicycle and bolted the kit to the bike.

the 50m mph electric bike is the next project...only problem is the cost of the batteries could be looking at $1200 dollars or so for a 50 mph bicycle.

Oh if anyone interested. here are the plans I was thinking of following

well I weigh in at about 180lbs, and it pulls me up a 8% gradient at about 20mph. probably do a bit more, but I have only done about 25 miles on it...want to bed here in gently. 69.8cc according to the manual...bought off e-bay for £100...so i suppose 180 USD or so. Chain drive rattles quite a bit...especially noticable when not under power.

OK so slower than just pedalling a normal decent moutain or road bike on the flat...but great up hills

Here is the kit... Bicycle Engine Kit, Motorized Bicycle, Bicycle motors, Transformer Cycles, Grubee

i got mine off someone ...who originally bought it off e-bay...so not sure it is the original kit...or a copy...but what ever it works ok.

castings a bit rough, so I suspect a cheap Chinese copy...but who cares...just a bit of fun

Already got one, it is more internal...the clutch mech I think...it is not that well built...I had to hit the front sprocket with the die grinder to get the chain to release properly as it came off the sprocket.

That Schwinn is one sweet motorized bike. Reminds me a little of the 'Whizzers' back in the day. Yours is a lot cooler and probably faster, too! I looked over the site for building the electric one. Whew! Looks like a guy would need a degree in electronics to pull that one off.

Re the electric bike...well only need a good electronics background if you are going to mod the controllers yourself...there are lots of ready beefed up controllers...or also plenty of standard ones...althought they wold probably not handle the 100 amps 100 volts....unless you then went for a bigger car based controller.
