My V-Rod is never going to be a bagger

Having said that, I figured that if anybody could provide some detail on this, it would be you guys. You the travel specialist with lots of miles under your belt. I am planning to attend Myrtle Beach Bike Week so I will need to have some kind of storage. I have a decent back pack but I know that is not the way to go.

Can anyone offer suggestions or ideas about this subject?

On the serious side, motorcycle-luggage.com is a good site. Many manufacturers. cycle-luggage.com is another. Don't have experience with the V-Rod, but I'm sure there are bags that will work on your ride.

Did a search myself and came up with this for all Harleys, in case you are interested.

Motorcycle Luggage and Motorcycle Saddle Bags from Biker's Friend Motorcyle luggage, I thought it was pretty decent.

Hey German when do you plan to go down to MB. We have rented a house down there already so get to go or not I am out rent money anyway LOL. I have plans to attend as well. Sad to say as of right now I will have my bike uke: trailered down on Saturday and then meet up with the crew on Sunday. Wifey has class on Saturday and can't go down until Sat night or Sunday morning and I don't want her driving down alone. Anyway, back to original question when you going down and where you staying? Maybe we can meet down there and kill a beer or two.

Travel light. My first bikes weren't baggers, so I did this a lot. Same as when I went afield in the service. Just don't pack anything that you don't NEED. You can get by for weeks with just 2 pair of jeans. Socks, T-shirts and shorts can be bought & tossed more easily than carrying crap ya have to worry about all the time - and can be cheaper than custom bags that you'd use once a year and won't hold all you WANT anyway.

It really is liberating not to have to carry anything. Deodorant, talcum powder and a camera will get you there & back with plenty of memories. You won't make the cover of GQ, but you'll have a blast anyways.

The plan is for my neighbor, his 03 Road King and I to depart sometime during the weekend, from there if we can make Dulles, VA or Quantico, VA we'd either go the the Air and Space Museum or the USMC museum, one of the two, and push as far down as we can get.

I also plan to see if we can stop by New River, NC Marine Air Station and see a friend there too, before getting to MB. Don't know what the schedule is for the week, but we'll be glad to get together and exercise the elbow a few times, provided we are parked for the night!! Maybe we can discuss further as we go along?

My bags are from National Cycle. I've had some issues with the self-detachable feature, but since I removed the rear axel nut covers, they haven't fallen off. I know what you guys are saying about packing light, but it really is nice to be able to lock your pocketbook in the saddlebags and go into a store. OK, maybe you guys don't have that issue, but it is handy to be able to take some basics with you and not have to worry about leaving stuff with the bike. Sure, if someone wants your stuff bad enough, they'll get it.

I have never had an issue with baggers, people that ride them, do it because they have the great opportunity to get away for a long time. GOD bless them I only wish I had the time, but I can dream right? Anyway, my bike does not lend itself to be a bagger, although I have seen some very poor samples of V-Rod baggers and they don't look right. My aspiration is to make Myrtle Beach Bike Week and back with the just the right amount of gear. Yes, I could get caugh in a rain storm, so I'll get wet and dry....eventually!

I will carry a change of clothes and wash them at my next stop. I will probably end up getting some removable luggage and survive with that.

Hey man...back when I thought baggers was just not cool.....I used a garbage bag strapped to the sissy bar with bungie cords!!! I was bbbbbbbad to the bbbone man!!
