Was sitting on my FLHTK with a HID headlight and a bright ass light tail light.
Was sittin a couple car lengths behind a car in front of me at a Redlight.
When a lady in a SUV came from the right and missed my front fender by inches.
She was going all way to the left to get in the lane next to me that goes to the School.
I put my hand up and said WTf you can't see me.
She stopped and I could see her trying to say I'm sorry didn't see you.
Sorry ain't gonna cut it if she runs over me and my bike.
These women driving big SUV's like Tahoes.

Those drivers don't care what sex they are anymore they all do it. I leave room between me and the car in front of me plus I also don't sit directly behind the cage in front of me. I try and sit in a position that gives me the best possible escape route in case I need it fast. Oh yea, I never take it out of gear. I see riders do that all the time and just shake my head.
I also see riders pull right up behind the cage in front of them with no room for an escape. It always reminds me of boot camp while in the military and they would tell us nuts to butts while standing in line.

Reminds me also of a time while sitting at a left turn traffic light while on the bike and the cars going straight were also stopped at the light. All of a sudden I hear tires skidding with that loud noise of rubber burning on the black top. I knew nothing was coming behind me as I always check the mirrors. All of a sudden the car next to me was rear ended hard. I looked over to the right in time to see both driver and passenger of that cage yell and saw there heads snapping back hard from the impact. Got off the bike and made sure they were OK, thank god for head rest or they might have had broken necks. You never know when it could happen and you always need to leave room for an emergency escape.

This thread can be a two way street. I remember as a teenager riding wide open away from one stoplight to another, buddy on another motorcycle next to me (racing? maybe...;) and realizing the BMW ahead of me had stopped at the next red light. I did not know the rear brake pedal went that low, and I think I bent the handlebars squeezing the front brake lever. Both my tires locked up, smoke in the air, and about 3 inches from the BMW propeller logo on the trunk when I finally skidded to a rest. My buddy nearly pissed himself laughing, while I just nearly pissed. So joshbob, if you read this, another reason I wear a helmet. Idiots like me live longer with em! LOL!

To protect yer face and head from whatever you might hit.

Just like you ride with Sunglasses and boots.

But its yer bag so do what you want.

Was standing next to a big truck when the guy standing on the upper portion was done fueling and went backward off the end of the truck cat walk. I'll never forget that sound when his head hit the concrete. Split him open like a water Mellon. Don't know if he lived or not but was still alive when the ambulance hauled him away. Not a pretty sound and he was only up about 10 feet off the ground where he was standing.
Helmet is better than nothing but won't protect you all the time.

State law says I hafta wear one. I'm getting a new 3/4 one soon with a new face shield for the cold weather riding. But in warmer weather I'd rather not wear one. Something's gonna get me anyway - cancer, heart attack, accident, whatever.
