One thing that this video didn't show is how instal the individual gears on the cam? Is it a press fit or key?

The gears are keyed and pressed onto the cam shafts. In the first shot of him using the press in the video, he is pressing the gear onto the cam shaft. I installed the S&S gear set in my 02 Heritage. You cannot install a gear driven cam set if your pinion shaft has more than .003" runout.

If you have the old style cam plate assembly with the spring loaded tensioners, and your pinion shaft exceeds this spec, you will have to upgrade to the new style HD set up that has the hydraulic tensioners and bored journals in the cam plate for the cam sticks. The kit comes with a new cam plate and larger oil pump.

Actually they still make the SE upgrade cam plate with bearings and high flow oil pump too. For those with access to the old style cams.

So if I wanted to go to the gears, do I have to go to the upgraded cam plate or can I stick with the stock one?

I would think that the stock plate is ok if one were to go the gears and just upgrade the bearings in the plate. Agree?

OK? So is it safe to assume that once the gear drives were put in that the crank bearings and so forth were upgraded?
