I have an '02 883R that needs the clutch adjusted. Thought I new how, but I guess not. When this started, the trany would grind when I tried to shift into first gear. Tried to adjust the tension under the rubber boot (by the oil filter), No help. I have either too much slack that I can't engage,(grinding), or too much tension, that won't engage until I let out the last 25 percent of the clutch. Am I doing something wrong? I feel like a dumb-ass, any tips would be greatly appreciated, ths. seabee5

    Clutched

You probably need to go into the clutch-basket and adjust from there in order to take up the slack. It really is not hard at all but,,,
you need to buy an SERVICE MANUAL.

    Good luck.

    Read this article first.

The Sportster is different than a Big Twin because the adjuster is under the derby cover on the left side. But, the same principle applies.

If you are planning on doing your own work, buy the service manual because it is the best tool in your box.
