I have an 85 FLTC, bought rebuild kit for the Keihin, replaced the accelerator pump and the needle valve in the float and the rubber gasets, put everything back as it came apart I truly believe, after putting the carb back on was really hard to keep running, alot of back firing, rode maybe 1/8 mile, it died. Pulled it back into the garage and let her sit for sit for the past two weeks as had to go back to FT Campbell. This morning pulled the air cleaner off and bracket, it is not getting fuel into the carb, pulled the fuel line off the carb and is flowing fine, when opening the throttle no fuel is coming through the jets. Where should I start to fix the problem ?

Pull the accel pump out and take a look at that. If the diaphragm is bad it won't send gas. Then I would take the carb off of the bike and clean everything really well. Check the rubber diaphragm and make sure it is not pinched.

I keep reading about the level of the gas in the float bowl needing to be a certain level, I did replace the needle valve when I rebuilt, if it was the wrong needle valve would that cause the gas not to pump ?

Anything is possible. Did you have the carb apart? When adjusting the float, there is a specific procedure that is required for when you do it. do you have a Service Manual for your bike? If not, get one. when adjusting the float level you have to have the carb at an angle before you set the float. However you said that you weren't getting gas when twisting the throttle. That has nothing to do with the float..

I did take it completely apart and cleaned it before reassembling it, I will take it back apart and check the accelerator pump and the jets, have never rebuilt a carb and just wondering what I have done wrong

No need to take the carb off of the bike to check the accel pump. The accel pump is on bottom and off to the right of the float bowl. There are three? screws that old that on. Take those out but be careful as there is a spring in there and you do not want to lose that. ;)

CV carb or Butterfly valve, 85 models come with a butterfly type Keihin carb.

It is a butterfly type..looked at the pump and could see nothing wrong with it, going to pull the carb off and check the jets

If the float is set wrong it won't let much gas in the float bowl and if not enough gas in the bowl the accerater pump won't pump gas.
