Hey I have a question I have a 99 fatboy and I ride it to work 45 miles to the yard the other day it it rained and the I have to take a dirt road the last mile well that day was muddy and I laid it over got up and started to continue my way and I got about 40 yards and the bike slip out from under me got up once again and rode about 10 yards and it just stopped driving the motor was still running but it wouldn't drive check everything and I could not see or find anything wrong . Got it home I check the clutch cable pulled the covers off still couldn't find anything wrong the clutch engaged but it still won't drive I put it in gear and it still rolls when I start it in gear it will try to pull away but that is all nothing after its running so if anyone could help I will really Appreciate it thanks

If I understand your message; with the engine running, you put the bike in gear, let out the clutch lever, NOTHING Happens??? BUT the bike will freely roll when pushed WHILE IN GEAR? Is that right???
1st. Does the tranny clunk when you put it in gear with the engine running??
If yes then it does sound like the tranny is shifting into gear. Go to 2.
If NO then maybe the tranny isn't shifting into gear which would mean probably the shift lever, shaft on the outside of tranny OR something worse INSIDE the tranny is loose or broken.
2.So it sounds like it is going into gear BUT the engine will not power the rear wheel. Either the drive belt is off or broken (easy to see) or something in your primary case let go like the primary chain, compensator. In other words, your engine is not connected to the tranny anymore.

Could there be mud clogged around the clutch lever, preventing it from returning all the way? If not, take off derby cover and check out clutch adjustment. If you need to adjust the clutch start by loosening up the cable adjustment so there is plenty of slack in it then in the center of the clutch assembly you will see a nut(about 5/8ths) with a screw type shaft extending from it's center. Loosen the nut, turn out the screw so as it's free, then turn the screw in so it just bottoms on the throwout beering, then back it out 1/4 to 1/2 a turn, lock down the nut without letting the screw turn. Then adjust your cable so you have minimum slack in it. Clutch lever shoul have just a little free play. Let us know what you find.

Sounds to me that its not really going into gear. Something wrong with the clutch or clutch adjustment.

Seems it could be your brakes locking up on you...can you lift the bike and roll the wheels to see if the brakes are dragging...pistons could have dirt/mud on them and won't fully release then bind when they heat up....dragging brakes could be what put you down in the first place, you know what it's like braking on slippery surfaces...front brake= face plant, rear brake it goes out from underneath you(just been told that,it never happened to me;))
Might be time to clean the calipers, pistons and pins...:)
Good luck... Let us know what you find:D
