Bad day Thursday, Spyke starter fried it's solenoid at work. Stinks so bad it smelled like an electrical fire. Trailered it home and tore it down. I think I'll get the starter rebuilt locally, but now I only have power to the speedo light and blinkers. I'm guessing ignition switch went south. I never had it replaced on the 1997 Electra Glide factory recall. My question is this..Is this switch a factory only item or can I score an aftermarket unit? I hate givin money to the factory! :gah: Or, has anybody done a re-wire and kept the switch for the steering lock part only and run their own electrical switch?

If it was on a re-call list for safety it should (might) still be. Maybe, I'd see what the H-D dealer says.

I suppose I could give this a go (reluctance on my part)

Of all the places I checked JP was not one of them. Anybody else on this...I'm still open for suggestions

Guess I'd also wonder why the starter fried, is there another problem electrically
    that caused the issue.

I don't think you'll find much aftermarket for a Electra Glide, that's pretty much a factory
item. Dash switches are a dime a dozen for Road Kings, Softails, dynas etc.

Id' check the wire harness to the switch, they have issues on the FL's
due to the large harness connection right there where the batwing moves
    back and forth..

Once that fairing comes off, and it has to, I'm giving it the complete once over. Yehaw, I love electrical problems! Thanx for the input!
