    Hi all

The dealership contacted me today about picking up my new ride and are offering up some things. Just wondering what your thoughts are

    1. Theft protection

    2. Extended Service Plan (ESP)

    3. Pre-paid maintainence

I'm thinking that these items are probably well known to some of you guys so I won't go into all the details of each.

Thanks as always for your help

    John

This is strictly my opinion......the pre-paid maintenance is BS, especially if you want to switch over to synthetic oil because they charge you extra for it anyway. If you have insurance, there's no need for theft protection. Extended service plan is fine if you plan on just riding the bike and never altering it. Just my .02, and I'm sure there are guys who will disagree..... :D

theft protection depends on where you live
prepaid maintainace is if'n ya wanta but for me it would be a waste of money
extended service plan depends on if you think you will ride enough to justify it

So a stage #1 upgrade voids the warranty?

Also. Does any do it yourself maintainence while the bike is under warranty also void the warranty?

I don't know about the stage 1 deal, I had it done at the dealer before it ever left the showroom, and they said nothing about it voiding the warranty. I DO know that whatever you do to the bike yourself, they will not warranty it or anything that is damaged as a result of that particular part. (like my 240 kit.....) But I personally would not go back to my dealer for anything, they suck....

depends on if your dealer is an azz, or wants your continued business, stage one shouldn't void your warranty as long as you follow the recomendations of the manufactor, installation procedures, mapping and such, thats where a service manual comes in, and no self improvement does not void the warranty as long as they cannot prove the repairs done to your scoot caused the failure and the burden of proof is on them, but I do recommend you keep the dealer in the loop some how with parts minor repairs (cheap), and I do recomend the 1000 miler at the dealer to give it a througho once over. it will keep them happy and waitting for more of your hard earned cash, as for every thing else it should be warranty for the first few years, so ride hard and safe.

I'm out of the loop too much work

John, where'd you get the bike and what did you get? If your bike is new and it's injected, I think they all are now a stage one with the warranty is a non issue. I've got an '04 EG and I put the extended warranty on it. i'm not sure if it's the right thing to do but I did it anyway. I put a 95 inch kit in it.....no cams and the warranty is still good. The other stuff I wouldn't bother with. It's about time for me to get the EG ready for the road.

    Howdy Sleepy

I Got the Road King Classic. I ordered it from the Lethbridge dealership. They wound up coming in with best price of all the Southern Alberta dealerships and I've heard nothing but good things about them. They e-mailed me on Friday and said that it should arrive within the next two weeks. I'm just going nuts waiting for it :) I ordered it for an Early May delivery date and was regretting that move real bad. Glad it's getting here early! As for the extended warranty, you hear it said all the time whether it's washing machines or what ever, generally the extended warranty isn't worth it. But with motorcycles I figured I'd better have a chat with you guys.

    You take care

Maybe have to catch up with you sometime this year!

I Went With The Extended Warranty On Mine, And I Have Never Bought A Extended Warranty On Anything Before, But Since 07 Was The First Year For The 110 C.i. And First Year For The Six Speed On The Touring Bikes I Thought It Would Be Worth It, Plus I Got Better Intrest Rate On The Loan

Don't know about the theft protection, but if it's your daily rider Pre-paid is...was...the way to go. Don't worry about synthetic, it's FREE OIL for x number of years. UNLIMITED Free tires. But I've heard that it changed in the past year. But I LOVE it, I ride every day and it's MORE than worth it. I got it for 1600 and after the third or fourth REGULAR maintenance it's paid for itself!
