    Hello all,

Yesterday I had the chance to install the new pipes, fuel control and hypercharger on the Dyna. It was cold (35) today, so only a short test drive. It looks good, sounds great, and the performance was noticeably improved.

The Hypercharger is Kuryankin, the pipes are Samson, Ray Price limited edition 2 into ones. I went with a Cobra fuel controller to get the fuel up. Intallation was done with a minimum of cussing at the machine, except the Hpercharger, which would require a major job to get proper vacuum to it, so I left the vacuum off.

Yeah, that slash sold me on this set. That is actually a cut out on the heat shield, the pipes are chrome underneath. I was looking for a set of 2-into-1s, and was also looking at a screaming eagle set, but went this way, I liked the looks better.

The performance is the reason I went this way. Previously when in 6th gear below 60MPH, the engine felt like it was lugging a bit. Now, it is smooth and good response. I like it.

Been several years since I had a bike with a Hypercharger on it, but if I remember right, vacuum is what opens the butterflies & if so, you'll have to hook it up.

Keep a check on yer plugs with the tuner you have.

The Thundermax would of given you better power.

I have a Cobra tuner on my 08 Street Glide. It works well and haven't had any trouble with sooting the plugs. Sometimes under hard excel I will get a pop when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Enjoy. I works pretty good for the price.

The vacuum for the hypercharger actually closes the butterflies, not opens. There was an extra vac port near the intake I tried, but on that one the vac increases as power is applied, closing the butterflies. The one in the instructions is near the MAP sensor, where the vacuum decreases as the throttle is opened, opening the butterflies, with the vacuum disconnected, the butterflies stay open. I am not sure if there is a valid reason for closing them at low throttle, a lot of high performance intakes on the market are just high flow air filters. Time permitting, I may dig into it and make it correct. Fortunately my son's bike, my old sporty, had a hypercharger on it, so I could look at the actual opening and closing. At idle it is about 1/4 open, at full throttle it opens up completely. When not running it is full open also.

To set it up correctly, I would have to remove the tank (a bit of work with no petcock and the cross over line under the frame), reposition the stabilizing bracket, add a modified MAP port with the vacuum, and route that to the hypercharger. Seemed like a lot of work to make the butterflies open and close. I do not see how that would effect anything since the bottom on those are open anyway. I could be wrong, happens now and then.

Cold up here so far when I have been at home, so only a little riding with it on, so I have to shake it out a bit and see what it will do, and watch the plugs and exhaust for soot, or too lean a burn, but so far the performance has been good.

Steve, I live in the north, closer to the twin cities than Milwaukee. My daughter is living in the cities currently. She like it a bit better than the small town she grew up in. You're a bit closer to the cities than I am, by a couple of hours. Damn cold in these parts.

OK, so I was thinking backwards - wouldn't be the 1st time :gah: :roflmao:

I had a Hypercharger on the '95 Sportster several years ago, but took it off 'cause it stuck out too far & my right knee was right on it.

    Y'now there's 2 things that happen to ya when you get old - the 1st thing is you lose your memory & the 2nd thing is . . . . . um, . . . . . well, . . . . .

Yes it is definitely cool this morning , about 20 degrees. I am glad I rode during the warm stretch. Had surgery on my hand Friday so the cold makes it easier to sit around and do nothing other than make my list of things to look for at the Donnie Smith Show next weekend.
