It was short but nice. The temp got up to 40 but the wind chill was about 25 but I couldn't help myself. When the sun was out it didn't feel half bad plus we're supposed to have some snow this evening and tomorrow so I thought I'd beeter enjoy whatever I could. Started out by going to Boone Dam about 4 miles from home then on for about another 25-30 miles. Here's a pic of the Dam and if you didn't catch it, the bike's in the foreground. MVC-013F.jpg

I got my first ride of the year in today also. But up here near Lexington, KY the temp is 19 Fahrenheit and the wind chill is 11 and that's sittin' still.:D But the sun is shining and I got family around me so it's all good.

We had our first ride of the year too.
We got up this morning rode on the sidewalk down to the main street where it was dry and then proceeded on to Pueblo in 25* degree weather . In Pueblo we meet with friends to participate in the Pueblo HOG Chapter Annual Brass Nut poker run. The temperature was a little warmer in Pueblo maybe 40*. This is a 2-stop poker run. Outpost H-D served as the sign up and first stop. Pizza Madness in Canon City was the 2nd and final stop, where for $8.00 you could get all you can eat pizza, salad and soda. Winners were announced and then a raffle with lots of nice prizes was held. The ride home was good about 45* with the sun on our backs. All together about 150 miles round trip and another Brass Nut for our collection.
Today was the Ol's birthday too, man I'm gald she likes to ride

Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!! 150 miles starting at 25 degrees -that's noteworthy. And there's nothing better than when your favorite squeeze likes to ride too.

I have no idea what the temps were. Actually, I remember the neighbor saying it got all the way up to 38 at one point. I couldn't get my bike from the garage to the road if it had been 50. :( I can't even park the car where I normally do because of all the snow in the driveway.

It's not a normal driveway. It's more like what they'd call a "dooryard" in New Hampshire. I live on a compound with three houses, two barns, 2 horse pens, a cow pen and a chicken house, so the driveway is the big dirt/gravel area that's in between them all. After it snowed around Christmas, the wind blew really hard and some places have no snow at all and others have 2 foot drifts. It doesn't seem like it will ever go away. :(

I miss eastern Tennessee sometimes. It's one of my favorite places in the country.

Sounds like a farm like my grandparents had. Always enjoyed going there and playing in the barn, chasing the chickens and the like - that's been over 1/2 century ago but it's some of the greatest memories I could ever have.
Eastern Tennessee - where abouts? If you decide to come back this way, give a yell.

My new year day ride was with the HOG chapter out to the crash site for a good friend and a fellow chapter member with a prayer from a Chaplin in the chapter. We then all rode on to a Abby's pizza where Mike loved to go. We had a very big turn out and during the prayer a eerie wind came up a cloud opened with sun light shinning down and then a lone Hawk appeared soring above, man that was really spooky. Never seen anything like that. Today we go to another memorial for another chapter member who died from a heart attack last week.

Monday is the service for Mike and there will be a long motorcycle precession led by the Patriot Guard and the chapter will be riding after them. He will be buried with full Military honors which he deserves at the National Cemetery that sits on top of a hill over looking Portland.

I sure hope 2010 is a better year.

FLHT, let us know the time of the service on your local and we will convert to our local. Let's see if we can't all throttle up about that time in his remembrance. It's the least we can offer and do. God bless ya.

dmassey, I lived in Copperhill for a while. Crazy place. My son's grandfather lives on the Tennessee River somewhere. Only went there once over 20 years ago, so I can't remember where exactly.

I'd like to ride the parkway again at some point.

Copperhill - been through there and it's wasn't too hard to see where it's name came from. It was a hot, dry summer when I went through and every thing was dry so you could see the color that the copper gave to the soil.
Man, the sun is out and it's pretty here today. Cold (22 deg.) but pretty.

As I remember it had more of a copper color although it could have had some green due to oxidatin of the copper in the soil. I was in my very early teens back then - about 45-50 years ago.

Drillsarge the funeral went well. Patriot guard was out in full force. The Marine Corp was there and there was full military honors. It poured down rain and was about 45 cold degrees with all the rain. Even throw it was dumping and was cold we still had approx. 55-60 riders not counting the Patriot Guard and a bunch in cars. Going to really miss riding with him.:(

It's tough when we lose a soldier, when he's a friend words can't explain how tough it is. The old saying goes " For those who understand, no explanation is needed. For those who don't no explanation is possible." God bless.
