I taught a class yesterday with a guy who does a lot of Iron Butt rides and rides to Alaska and stuff like that. He has one of those big BMW dual sports. He's a great guy. Anyway, he asked me if I had any big trips planned for this year. I started to say I didn't, because I'm planning on going to see my son in Vietnam... and we're riding motorbikes around the country together. So duh, yeah I guess I do have a big trip planned. :roflmao:

I just bought the ticket this morning. Leaving on November 30. I'll get there before his birthday, and then I'm leaving after the Apocalypse (December 21 - or so say the Mayans). I'll be arriving in Denver on Christmas Eve.

I'm nervous and excited. He's been there for over two years, so I've finally decided that it's not as dangerous or scary as someone from my generation thinks about it. I still wish he wasn't there, but he's got a mind of his own. Don't know where he got that independence and adventure.

I'll probably write the sequel, since a bike ride around the Vietnam countryside might be a pretty good story.

Wow riding through Vietnam, would have been pretty difficult when I was there. They have some nice looking countryside and in the south they have some really nice white sandy beaches. Hope you have fun.:)

Wow! I don't know if I would ever... Best of luck, it certainly has changed.

Thanks HRK. Fatboy, I have really struggled with him being there. In the end, I have to look at the life I chose compared to what my parents would have had me do. :gah: My mother has never admitted that she wished this on me, but there are days I wonder. :roflmao:

Have fun, Abby. I'm riding my shovel up to Cleveland, Ohio this summer right after school lets out (about a 1300 mile round trip). I'm going to keep a journal. It's going to be a big family reunion - I haven't seen any of them since 1972, and a half brother I've never met. My other half brother rides a Heritage.

Anyhow, have a blast over there and don't be concerned about the Apocalypse - Many have predicted it but no one really knows for sure when it will happen . . . .

Cleveland, the only city below the Big Apple. I worked out of there for years. BUT, sounds like a good time for you also Josh!
PS. Be careful on Deadman's Curve! It's very nasty. (I90 at the Route 2 split. Downtown)
ALSO, Google "The Christmas Story House". You can visit the house that was in the movie. It's been fully restored to the condition it was for the movie including the Ladies Leg Lamp in the front window!

I remember the song "Deadman's Curve". Thought it was in California. I'm gonna do my best to stay off all interstates and stick to secondary roads. It takes a little longer, but I'd bet it's more scenic and you don't have to ride like a bat out of hell to keep from getting run over. ;)

Every place guys of our vintage used to and probably still do drive/ride our toys has a "Dead Mans' Curve". J&D did mean one in CA. My HS crowd had one with a four foot thick maple on the shoulder. That curve and tree took 3 from my HS. :(
