After missing past 2 monthly meetings and several club events I finally got to make one here on the island. Getting to be many new members and way to many bikes on the rides. We had over 30 bikes (probably 40 or more). Gets very stressful to ride with the club. About a dozen riders skipped the photo. I'm 3rd from your left.

Nice pic but hard to make you out. Your group still has no dealer sponsor?

The old Chapter I left 3 years ago the dealer has cut off their funding for the meeting place they were going to. He told them that there are no more Road Captains and now even a passenger can lead a ride. He is also allowing alcohol at chapter events and rides. He owns the chapter and he does what he wants.
Sure glad the chapter I now belong to (Sunset Chapter) is not like that. They are a pretty good group.

It has always spooked me riding in large groups. Up to about half a dozen is my limit. It's the main reason I don't go on toy runs or similar events around here. It's the same with long funeral processions or large bike clubs out riding - it's a pita waiting for them at intersections.

No more dealer sponsor due to the dealer we had shut down and the motor company won't open another on the island. There are four dealers on the island as it stands and they have chapters. Our group became an AMA chartered club. We stand on our own now.

Ouch! I see I miss spelled "Day" in the title of thread. No way to correct a title is there???

We lost our HOG chapter status when the dealer closed. No dealer sponsorship no HOG. We has to remove the rocker that said "Lighthouse Chapter" so we needed to find a way to stay an official club with insurance etc. Or breakup.

Apparently there is something attractive to us cause we are growing in numbers that are ridiculous. I'm almost done with club rides. When ya get 30+ bikes trying to ride together it's like a big rubberband that travels slow . Due to having grand kids with us for 2 months I missed 2 monthly meetings. Yesterday's meeting there were about a dozen new members I never met that recently joined and 6 more joining. It's out of control.

Well that's what we are. We still roll like a chapter. But there is a lot of "family" feel and fun especially for couples.

Yep but the rides are getting very tedious so I think people are looking more for a social life than serious rides.

You can always do both. Socialize with the big group and ride with those that you want to ride in small groups with. That way your not riding in a large group where you feel uncomfortable with.

Sounds like there are a lot of options available. I socialize with all kinds of bikers. I don't ride with my bagger buddies - they like to go too fast and too far for me . My buddy down the street has a 2006 Heritage and I went on a short ride with him once. It was a beating. I didn't say anything, not wanting to sound like a little pussy. A regular day ride for him is going to Raleigh and back on the freeway, 80 MPH for 200 miles. I'm glad I didn't go on that ride!

80 MPH down a freeway and back is not my kind of riding either. Maddog and I like back roads.

Back roads and 50-70mph is my comfort zone. Coffee shop every couple hours for a piss break is nice too.

Gotta remember, 70mph is about 110km/h up here, so it looks and feels faster. ;)That's why our "junk" is measured bigger too. Thanks, metric system!o_O
