    NORTH CAROLINA PROHIBITS MOTORCYCLE-ONLY CHECKPOINTS

“HB 381 an Act to Prevent Law Enforcement Agencies from establishing
patterns for vehicle stops at checking stations based on a particular type
of vehicle is now Session Law 2011-216,” reports Doc Ski, legislative
director for CBA/ABATE of North Carolina and a member of the National
Coalition of Motorcyclists Legislative Task Force (NCOM-LTF).

The legislation passed unanimously through both houses of the legislature,
and was signed into law on June 23 by Governor Beverly Perdue, making North
Carolina the second state in a month behind New Hampshire to enact such laws
in response to NHTSA funding of motorcycle-only checkpoints to stop
motorcyclists en route to major biker events to check equipment and
    paperwork.

This bill, sponsored by Rep. John A. Torbett (R-Stanley), provides that a
vehicle checkpoint pattern designated by a law enforcement agency shall not
be based on a particular vehicle type and must include all types of
vehicles, but does not restrict any other type of checkpoint or roadblock
    which is otherwise lawful.

In addition to preventing motorcycle-only roadblocks, Governor Perdue also
signed HB 113 to increase the minimum penalties for violating the right of
way of a motorcyclist. The previous fine for this infraction was a mere
$25, but this bill sponsored by Rep. Ric Killian (R-Raleigh) calls for a
$200 fine for a driver who causes a motorcyclist to leave his travel lane.
The fine is increased to $500 if there is property damage or personal injury
    sustained from this violation.

Good news on both counts. Surprising though, as we live in a Demo state. They usually try to supress anything motorcycle related. Kudo's to CBA/ABATE & NCOM-LTF.

I hope NY follows suit. They have been harassing rally goers to no end.

That's good news as I'll be heading into NC on my trip back east.

Fatboy128, New York would probably pass a law allowing cage drivers to run as many motorcyclist off the road as they can get in one day. :roflmao:

Sad thing is that we even need legislation to protect us from the
government singling us out, yet they cannot single out towel heads
    at air ports.

FLHT, if you're anywhere near Hobgood, drop in for awhile. It's about 26 miles east of Rocky Mount. If ya stayed overnight, you'd have to sleep on the couch as my mother-in-law has the guest bedroom!

Were going to stop in Kernersville, my sister lives there. Probably get a motel and spend at least one night in some A/C. We will be heading down I-40 after that. Not sure where Hobgood is located. There will also be three of us, yea got three couches.

Think about this, we can stop and discriminate against bikers. But we can't stop and discriminate against Muslims.
    What's up with that.........:gah:

    Its Johnny's fault.......

Ha-ha! Only one couch, barely big enough for one, and we are about 200 miles east of Kernersville out in the sticks. The only things we have here are a Post Office, the Hobgood Academy, 2 little convenience stores, and a itty bitty breakfast & lunch eatery. No gas station. Big draw, huh? But that's why I like it here - nobody wants to come here!

That's funny! But it's not funny what's happening to our great country. I read somewhere that there are something like 20,000 mosques in the U.S. of A. It's a good bet many of them support & fund terrorists. I wonder how many Christian churches there are in Saudi Arabia or Iran. . .
