Oh nine (2009) CVO's

Man the new Touring bikes has a new redesigned chasis, and the rear cylinder cuts off when you stop for a light to take the heat of yer leg.
They got a 180mm tire on back of the new touring bikes.
They come up with a bunch of changes. Have you visited HD web site yet for the 2009 Bikes !:gah:

The rear cylinder cuts off? I get the thing about the heat, but they haven't always been that bad. I noticed it when I was demo'ing a bunch of '08s last year. The Low Rider was unbearable on the right leg. My '01 is hot when I'm stopped on a hot day, but certainly not that bad. That rear cylinder thing sounds like a problem waiting to happen. I mean, why wouldn't you try to resolve the heat issue rather than engineer the bike to stop working? Is that for real? How do you market that as a good thing? Our motorcycles are clearly uncomfortable to ride, so we're going to design them to lose functionality...

Eh, maybe it will be some great thing and I'm being overly critical.

Its really about the EPA, the bike needs more fuel. Just like to have yer bike tuned, you have to pay 450.00 for a Sert, then you have to pay 300.00 more for the tuning. The tuning is all you should have to pay for, unless they wanted to sell the black Box they sell you for 450.00, for 75.00.
You know the bike is not runnin right when its not gittin enough fuel so it can meet EPA standard.
The EPA and Folks like Al Gore is gonna cripple this country and cost us a lot of money in the long run.

I agree with cardboard, it has more to do with emission requirements. If you are cruising along and have to stop at a light, the heat is already there, and would take several minutes before it would cool significantly. However, it would be using less fuel, and the cylinder would get cooler.

A cooler cylinder will burn the fuel more efficiently, hence the need to get into water cooling in the future (it is coming). It also allows for a leaner mix (hotter) if you can get rid of the excess heat(leaner mix = less unburned fuel emissions). That is why Harley is also is using the black jugs with ragged cuts on the heat fins, better heat radiation and cooling.

A lot of cars have gone to cutting off cylinders when not needed, such as steady highway cruising. I have not heard any negatives from this, but perhaps I wasn't listening too close. Has anyone else heard of any down sides?

I remember way back when I had a little Honda Ascot 500cc single cylinder. Fun little scoot, not fast or powerful though. It always ran best right around 45 degrees. On hot days it didn't run quite as well.

Oh, EPA laws. That explains it.

autos have been doing balanced cut outs for years why use it when you don't have to diesels have a balanced cut out too its called a jake no big deal really just a customer comfort to sell is all I figure you shouldn't have to worry about it if you moving

thats right not something to concern with unless your only riding in parades and hrk is right wouldn't hurt to have a spare scoot setting around i think thats what he was getting at

If I get a good check, I will think about a Street Glide or a Cross Bones. I know, two totally different bikes. I will never-ever part with Hot01 though. Right now the only thing she's lacking is the 6 speed transmission, and that wouldn't cost too much, relatively. I'm also thinking about starting a business if I get a decent check, which would probably provide me with all kinds of bikes to try out. What was that story about free milk and a cow?
